there was nothing I could do about it,” Mitchell said. She could sense the frustration in his voice. “You know what this new account means to me, to the company,” he said as he looked at her. She rolled her eyes and took another sip of her water.
“ That’s the problem right there. It is all about you and the company,” she said angrily. ”Call me when you finally realize that you are no longer single but married with a baby on the way1” she added as she tried to stand up. Mitchell got up and quickly walked over to her. “Move, I want to go to bed,” she said looking into his eyes. He shook his head and sat on the edge of the table looking down at her.
“ We are going to talk about this tonight,” he said as he felt his anger begin to rise. “You know very well that Nolan Schmidt Communications is my family’s legacy. I have responsibilities there. I cannot just walk out on them,” he said.
“ And I am not asking you to,” she said looking up at him. “It’s just that you are away so much and the baby is almost here,” she said sadly. Mitchell looked at her and raised an eyebrow.
“ I know and I’m sorry. It is not something that is going to take forever,” he said as he took her hand in his. “I am sorry but I have to ask, Tasha,” he said looking at her. “Could you be acting this way because you are bored?” he asked. Natasha’s eyes widened as she yanked her hand from his grip.
“ What the fuck is wrong with you?” she asked angrily. “So, just because I have one issue, you think I’m jealous?” she asked looking at him. She pushed her chair away from the table. “I can’t deal with this right now,” she said as she started walking towards the living room. Mitchell sighed as he followed her.
“ Tasha, we have a problem and I need you to understand where I am coming from,” he said as he watched Natasha take a seat and switch on the TV. “Babe, talk to me,” he said standing behind the seat. She ignored him and cranked up the volume even though he was sure that she was not into whatever was on the TV. He walked round the seat and stood in front of her and grabbed the remote from her grip. “Why don’t you understand that whatever I am doing, I am doing it for us?” he asked looking at her.
“ How exactly is leaving me for days on end for us?” she asked.
“ I told you, I can’t just walk away from my responsibilities. There are things I need to do for the company and I am doing them now so that I don’t have to leave when the baby comes,” he said.
She looked up at him, suddenly feeling guilty that she had been acting like such a brat, like it was always about her.
“Really?” Natasha asked looking at him.
“ Yes, really. I do not want to stay away from my family and at the same time, I do not want my business to fail,” he said kneeling down in front of her. “I told you once and I’ll tell you again, whatever I do, I do for us,” he added. A tear rolled down her cheek. “Tell me what is really bothering you, babe. Because I think there is something more,” he said as he brushed away the tear.
“ I…I…it’s just that…” her voice trailed off when Mitchell brushed her lips with hers.
“ Out with it, my love,” he said in a soothing voice.
“ I don’t want to be in the delivery room alone. Anything can happen…”
“ Nothing will happen,” he said cutting her short. “You see this baby you’re carrying right here?” he asked placing a hand on her tummy. “This is the healthiest baby in the world and there is nothing, absolutely nothing that could go wrong,” he said looking at her. A fresh flow of tears rolled down her cheeks. He got up and sat next to her and draped an arm around her shoulders.
“ I don’t even know why the hell I am acting like this. This is not me,” she said sobbing into his shoulder. He smiled and planted a kiss on her forehead.
“ It’s okay. I understand. The therapist said that the hormones would
