glass of rum-based punch into her fingers. It was the first time she'd seen Dr. Larissa Waverly, and her comment to Jake came out before she could pause to think.
"So you think you know flaunting? That's flaunting!"
Her wry outrage surprised a smile from Jake, who turned to follow her glance.
"Medieval scholars have changed since I was in college," he murmured.
Dr. Waverly swept into the patio area with a natural sense of the dramatic that Sabrina could only admire. She was a beautiful woman, tall, voluptuously proportioned and dressed to display the fact There was nothing medieval about the cut of the body-molding sundress worn by the good doctor. It revealed cleavage belonging to a thirty-six C at least. Sabrina's mouth continued to curve into a wry twist as she watched the professor make her way through the crowd of sixty or so medieval enthusiasts. The overhead lights strung around the pool gleamed on her shoulder-length red hair and Sabrina was sure her beautifully shaped eyes were going to turn out to be very green.
"There's flaunting and there's flaunting," Jake said cryptically.
"You can say that again. Well, I guess Dr. Waverly won't have any trouble keeping the attention of the male students, at least." Before Sabrina could say anything else, the beautiful professor was upon them, all charm and self-confident grace.
"I'm so glad you decided to join our little group at the last minute, Jake," the woman murmured with a deliciously husky voice as the introductions were made. In her high-heeled sandals she was only a couple of inches shorter than he and Sabrina was inexplicably uncomfortable at the realization that the other two looked quite attractive together.
"Thank you," Jake returned politely. "I'm looking forward to the seminars."
"Have you been interested in the subject for long?" Dr. Waverly inquired.
For some reason Jake slanted a short, meaningful glance at Sabrina's carefully composed features before answering smoothly, "No, not long. Sabrina, here, is the one who inspired my, uh, enthusiasm."
"Don't let him fool you, Dr. Waverly," Sabrina felt obliged to add sweetly as she recalled the discussion on the jet. "Jake has some strongly formulated opinions on the Arthurian legends!"
"Does he really?" Larissa Waverly seemed excited at the prospect "We'll look forward to hearing them in class. I must move along now and say hello to the others.
See you later, Jake, Sabrina." She drifted off in a cloud of flowery perfume.
Jake cast a quelling glance down at Sabrina. "I'd appreciate it if you would refrain from getting me involved in scholarly discussions. I'm only going to be attending those classes so that I can keep an eye on you. I'd just as soon not be called upon to sound scholarly and informed in the process!"
"Sorry," she retorted irrepressibly. "I thought you might enjoy impressing Dr.
    Waverly."
    "Whatever gave you that idea?"
"Something about the way she was flaunting herself in front of you, I suppose."
Sabrina grinned. She held out her empty glass. "Would you mind getting me another
..." Before she could finish the request, a cool glass full of rum punch was being helpfully thrust toward her and she turned to find Perry Dryden standing a little diffidently to one side.
"'Excuse me," he said, sounding anxious. "But I noticed yours was getting empty and I happened to be going past the punch table at the time."
"Why, thank you," Sabrina said, setting down her empty glass and accepting the one he offered. "How nice of you."
"Very perceptive," Jake drawled in his grittiest tones. "But I think Sabrina's had enough on an empty stomach." He deftly plucked the rum drink from her fingers and turned a hooded expression on the reddening Perry Dryden. "If you'll excuse us, we were just going in to dinner."
"Yes, yes, of course." Perry nodded quickly, stepping back. His gaze, half-hopeful, half-melancholy, followed Sabrina as she was led firmly away.
"Jake!" she snapped furiously. "Stop this at
