obedience and respect. When Thaddeus left, Glaucus had been remorseful, had even gone for warm water and cloths to clean his back.
    But it had marked a major turning point in Skaia’s life. He had accepted on some deeper level that he was truly a slave. After he was sure Glaucus slept that night, he had wept alone on his mat.
