kissed Olivia’s barbecue-flavored mouth before seating himself next to her.
“Glad you finally made it,” Dalton said.
    “Me too.”
His friend had a lazy, relaxed, and very happy quality flowing around him. It was so good to see Dalton in this tranquil, unstressed state. Usually his friend spent his days being a perpetual hard-ass to a continuing criminal element. It was great that he could finally relax and enjoy himself for a change.
“They plan to do some roping and riding and other ranch-related fun, but Olivia said she’d rather see the northern property instead. What do you think?”
“I can see roping, riding, and ranch-related stuff any day at our place. I’d rather spend a quiet day getting to know Olivia,” he responded. Silently, he did a dance of joy. The day on a ranch would normally be a good time away, but this was like visiting his day job. Soon it would be his actual day job.
He’d much rather spend private time together with Olivia and Dalton. And if that lazy smile on Dalton’s face was any indication, Wade wanted to make sweet, slow love to Olivia like he obviously had earlier. They’d probably spent the morning in bed while he’d been working. Wade planned to make an effort to hear her climax this afternoon.
“Good. When we finish eating, we’ll take off.”
They lingered only long enough to finish their food, listen to the music from the live band playing, and give a nod of thanks in the form of a round of enthusiastic applause to Stella Hunter, the unofficial DRMC chef and mastermind behind the extremely good food at the luncheon.
Olivia excused herself and went to another table to talk to her cousin, Laurel, who’d brought her to the annual DRMC event. Wade wanted to go thank her profusely, but didn’t. He just watched Olivia converse across several tables. He couldn’t seem to keep his eyes off of her.
Dalton also followed Olivia with his gaze. She chatted with the pretty blonde two tables over and out of earshot. “She probably won’t run away,” Dalton remarked in an amused tone.
    “Not yet, anyway.”
“Well, this was only a weekend-long event. She probably didn’t expect we’d get so attached.”
Wade turned to his lifelong best friend. “Are you getting attached? That’s so not like you.”
“I know.” Dalton pushed out a sigh. “I must be out of my mind. But she’s just so…different from any other woman we’ve ever been with.”
“True. And I really like her, too.”
Wade had to hide a look of astonishment when Dalton said, “Perhaps we could invite her back to visit before another entire year goes by. That is, if she likes the Stadium event tonight.”
“I’d have no problem with that.” He did another internal dance of joy. If they had even a slim chance to see her again, Wade planned to take it.
Olivia’s cousin got a cell phone call and they quickly ended their conversation. As her cousin lifted the phone to her ear, Olivia headed back in their direction. Before she took two steps, she paused as one of the ranch dogs crossed right in front of her path with a couple of rib bones from someone’s plate secured between his teeth. As he ran, the obviously smart canine looked over his shoulder to see if anyone gave chase to try to take his treat away. The sound of Olivia’s musical laughter over the dog’s antics with the rib made Wade’s heart clench.
Dalton was absolutely right. She was very special. They should make every effort to see if she wanted to come back for a future visit.
Wade hadn’t thought they’d ever find anyone they could share more than a single night until joining the Double Rider Men’s Club. At least not on a permanent basis. Olivia was the first candidate in a really long time that he’d even consider wanting to see again. Too bad she was only here for the one annual event weekend.
He decided to make each second of his remaining time with her count. To that end, they both stood as she approached the table.
