voice, "Should you have worn a
condom?"
    His laughter filled the chamber. "Vampires
don't make babies, Anca ." He paused, "At
least I don't think so." He really didn't know. The only females he ever had sex with were vampires. He tightened
his arms around her, "I know I hurt you terribly. I'm sorry."
    She felt the ice of his arms against her. She
nodded. "I know you are. You should be!" She managed a weak smile.
"I think you broke one of my ribs." She began to shiver. "I am
so cold."
    "We have to get going. Are you sure you are
okay?"
    "Yes, I will be once I am warm again." Her
teeth began to chatter.
    He found her gown and helped her back into it. It
afforded her little warmth, but at least it was something. He wrapped the
blanket around her shoulders. He quickly put on his pants and then draped her
in his shirt for another layer of warmth. It hung to her knees. "It will
help a little to keep you warm. We have got to get you some more clothes, young
lady." He lifted her up off the stone floor and she cried out. He put her
back down immediately. He thundered, "You ARE hurt." His breath was
so powerful it almost blew out the candle across the room.
    "I'm fine. I can't play with the big kid if I'm gonna be a cry baby." She laughed. "But in
my defense," she touched her swollen mouth, "I didn't know how rough
you really played."
    He looked down at his feet. He felt ashamed.
"Vampires have no medium speed. I
shouldn't have been so rough with you, especially the first time. I tried to
warn you. Vampires can be brutal." He paused and looked at the bruise on
her cheek and it hurt him to know that he had put it there. She was evoking
emotions in him that he thought had been long buried with his corpse. Hurt? Embarrassment? What were THOSE emotions doing in his life
now? He ran his fingers through his wavy black hair. "I will have to get
one of the doctors to look at you."
    "Doctors?"
    "Some of the vampires are doctors, yes. You
don't know much about us, do you?"
    She shook her head, "But I am learning!" She kissed his cool lips and wrapped her arms
around him.
    He touched the tip of her nose with his finger.
"I love you, Anca . I don't say those words
lightly. I don't think I have muttered them in over 200 years." He kissed
her forehead. "I know I haven't. I knew I was falling in love with you the
first time I saw you."
    "You mean at my parents' funeral?"
    "Oh no, much sooner than
that." He stopped speaking. He swallowed and
she watched his Adam's apple quickly go up and down. He knew he had spoken too
much.
    She pulled away from him, staring into his eyes.
"What? Before their funeral! You mean you were watching me, no, STALKING
me before my parents died?" Her voice was shrill and she stepped further
away from him. "What are you talking about? Why were you stalking me? This
was all planned! You meant to fuck me! You planned this all along." She
began to shout and continued to move backwards away from him until her back was
against the very wall where he had cracked her ribs. "You knew! You knew
you were going to bring me here!"
    " Anca , no, I didn't
know. I didn't know then that we were going to be lovers. Honest Anca , I didn't know."
    "I don't believe you! You liar! You rabid
vampire! What have I done? "
    Gunnar stood with his palms outstretched, "What
can I say, what can I do to make you believe me. I didn't know that we would
end up making love."
    She screeched again, "Making love? You call
THAT making love ? Where
I come from that's called an assault!" She choked and began again,
"No, it's called attempted murder!"
