stomach lurched. “You don’t think they took drugs, do you? I don’t think Sarah does drugs – at least I didn’t think she did. This is serious.”
“Their drinks could have been spiked,” Natalie choked out. “Just think what could have happened to them if Hank hadn’t brought them home…”
“Hush, little one. They are safe here with us now. We will take care of them together. And I promise you I will get to the bottom of this. I’ll find out what happened to them. And if somebody deliberately tr ied to hurt them, so help me, he will be one sorry son of a bitch.” I hugged her tighter, determined to protect them all. These three women meant the world to me, I wasn’t going to stand by and watch some assholes hurt them. The fuckers would all pay if they hurt my girls.
“Thank you ,” Natalie breathed in my neck. “I really appreciate it. Gabe would kill me if something happened to Olivia.”
Fuck! Here we were facing this problem together, and she worried about what Gabriel would think. My gut twisted, and I felt a dagger stab through my heart.
Natalie followed me out of the guest room and I pulled her down the passage toward my bedroom. She needed to rest. It had been an eventful night.
Her eyes grew wide when she saw where I was taking her. “Don’t worry, little one. You can go to sleep here in my bed; I will watch over the girls and get a doctor if necessary. But I think they will be OK, they are breathing normally now, they probably threw up most of whatever they might have taken. They are going to feel terrible in the morning.” I pulled at the tie of her dress again, only this time I would keep my distance and let her rest.
She slipped out of the dress , and my heart skipped a beat at the sight of her in her sexy underwear. My hands burned to touch her voluptuous body. Down, boy! I tucked her into the bed, covering her body quickly with the sheets before I changed my mind.
I sat on the edge of the bed, watching as her eyes fluttered closed, her long dark lashes resting on her soft pink cheeks, her lips still swollen from my rough kisses. Her dark hair spilled over the pillow , and I longed to touch the silky strands, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to stop there, so I just fisted my hands in my pockets. A hint of a smile curved her lips at the corners. I sighed as I left the room, pulling the door closed behind me so she would not be disturbed.
My cock still hard as granite, there wasn’t going to be much rest for me tonight. But I had other things to worry about. I walked to my study and fired up my computer. If Natalie was right, I had to find out what happened tonight and find the fuckers who did it.
S urprised by what I learned on the Internet, I discovered that drink spiking was rife at clubs – usually by men targeting specific women. In my opinion, it was equivalent to rape. Fury blasted through my veins. What kind of low life would stoop to such means to get a woman?
T he guest room was close to my study, I checked in on Sarah and Olivia regularly. At times they were restless, thrashing about in the sheets, but mostly they slept dead to the world.
A few phone calls to my connections in New York kept me up most of the night. They cursed my timing, but once I explained what had happened, they swore to help me get to the bottom of this.
Tomorrow I would take my girls to the Hamptons where they would be out of harm’s way. Besides, I knew my good friend, Sam Horton, was there already. Sam was a great physician; he would help if necessary, even though he was on vacation.
I leaned back in the leather wingback chair in my study and closed my eyes. Everything – no, everyone – that mattered to me was under my roof tonight – under my protection – and I’d protect them with my life. I drifted into a fitful and restless sleep.
