turned around he was learning something new.
“The only thing you will be retrieving is your balls from the ground. I am only asking you once to get off of my land,” Jesse ground the threat out. “If you don’t leave willingly…”
Sam got the gist of what was being said as Jesse’s words hung in the air, and he felt his stomach start to roll. This was a pissing contest of epic proportions, and he felt helpless to say or do anything. He feared both men and didn’t want to step between them.
“I’ll get off of your property, Jesse McCaffrey, but my claim still holds. Samuel is mine, and I will be back for him.”
Jesse growled as he stepped off of the last step, his nose mere inches from Desmond’s. “He has already been claimed. If you come near him, I will kill you, something I should do anyway for putting my mate in the hospital.”
    Mate?
Mate, not boyfriend. Why? Sam’s damn head was once again spinning. He wasn’t sure what the word meant, but he knew he wasn’t going to like it. He was pretty sure that simple word was going to have a huge impact on his life.
“You bastard!” Desmond howled as claws shot out from his hands.
Sam’s jaw dropped as Desmond tried to push past Jesse, but Jesse wouldn’t budge. When Desmond couldn’t get past him, he turned on Jesse, swiping at him with his claws. Jesse easily deflected the blow, raising his arm up to block Desmond’s. Jesse used the other hand to swipe at Desmond in the same manner.
Shane watched in horror as blood spurted across Desmond’s pristine white shirt when Jesse’s sharp claws slashed at him. Desmond was snarling and growling, snapping his huge sharp teeth at Jesse.
    Fuck!
Desmond was a Lycan just like Jesse. How had he not known? How long had he had his head buried in the sand? Why had he never seen any of this? He’d lived on the ranch for years, dated Desmond for months, and not once did he remember seeing any of this.
How deep did his denial go?
When the other two men started to jump into the fight, Cort and Nate, Jesse’s other brothers, leapt forward and engaged them. Gabe stayed with Sam on the porch, hovering over him like a watchdog protecting a litter of pups.
“Stop!” Sam shouted as he stood there helplessly watching the man he loved fight the man that had beat him to a pulp and put him in the hospital. As much as he wanted Desmond dead, he didn’t want Jesse hurt even more. “Leave him alone!”
Desmond leapt back from one particular vicious swipe by Jesse then turned to glare up at Sam. He chuckled as his claws disappeared right before Sam’s eyes. The laugh wasn’t a happy one, more like a promise of retribution.
And when in the hell had Desmond gotten claws?
“I see the little omega has grown a backbone,” Desmond said as he began to back away, the two men with him backing away as well. “You won’t need it once I have you back in my home, Samuel.”
Sam shivered at the threat. He had no doubt that Desmond would make good on his promise. He swallowed hard as he watched Desmond and the two men he came with climb back into their car and then drive back down the driveway.
His eyes shot to Jesse when the man spun around and began to come back up the steps. From the furious look on Jesse’s face, this wasn’t going to be good. Sam tried not to be afraid, but he was. He’d seen Jesse when the man was pissed, and he really didn’t want to be on the receiving end.
“You were told to stay inside, Sam.”
Sam’s mind blanked out as he stared at Jesse. The man’s words just bounced around in his head. Finally, he cocked his head a little. “Since when do you get to tell me what to do?”
    “I am alpha!” Jesse snapped.
Sam’s curiosity overrode his common sense, and he stepped toward Jesse. “What exactly does that mean? What’s an alpha?” He knew Jesse had a strong dominant personality, but this seemed like something more intense. “And why did Desmond call me an omega?”
    Sam didn’t know
