who exactly was chasing us, but I did know we all were running for our lives. It was so dark; I think we were in the woods. Why are we in the woods? Isaac and Conner both had my hands. They were almost dragging me with them. I couldn’t keep up with them. They were running too fast for me. Isaac kept screaming for me to hurry.
I fell down, hoping that whoever was behind us wasn’t catching up. That was wishful thinking. I heard this taunting laugh. I knew then who it was. Dominic Lufrand. I couldn’t make out his face; it was just so dark out here. ‘’What a great place to die,” I thought sarcastically to myself. Conner picked me up and followed Isaac. It was a never ending darkness. We were too deep in the woods now. I knew we all were about to die. Then I heard the shots. Dominic fired twice. I looked down to see that Isaac and Conner both bleeding out. I screamed in terror.
I could not lose them both. I desperately tried to pull them; I wasn’t getting far enough fast enough. Dominic was right in front of me now. He aimed the gun to my head and pulled the trigger.
I wake up screaming with tears falling down my face. I was so caught up in my dream, I actually thought it was real. My heart races so fast, I fear I might die from it exploding. Conner comes rushing in the room after me. I forgot they both left me in the night.
“Riley, what is it? What’s wrong?” Conner is just as upset I as I am.
“I…can’t…breathe,” I gasp at him. I’m having a panic attack. Wonderful. Isaac comes in the room then. He grabs my face, forcing me to look at him.
“Look at me. Follow my breathing, Riley.”
“Her lips are blue, should I call 911?’’ Conner asks.
“No, she can do this on her own.” I try so hard to calm down. I know what to do, but my body isn’t doing what I needed it to.
“Come on, Riley, breathe with me.” I look deep in Isaac’s eyes now. I focus as hard as I know how to on his blazing blue eyes.
It’s starting to work. We breathe in sync and I feel my heart finally slow its pace. “That’s it, in and out. Slow deep breaths.” Isaac takes control over the situation, and I’m glad he knows how.
I take one last deep breath and say, “I think it’s passed now. I’m sorry to worry the both of you.”
“What happened?” Isaac demands to know.
“I was having a nightmare. I guess I actually thought it was real.” I tell them the rest of the dream, hoping they aren’t regretting telling me about Dominic.
“I knew we shouldn’t have told you about him. I am sorry we put you in this mess,” Conner tells me.
“I’m glad you told me. I need to be prepared in every way possible. I don’t think I can handle losing either of you. Please don’t keep me in the dark. I need the both of you to trust me, and we can’t do that if both of you are keeping secrets from me.” I’m beyond frustrated now. I know they know something by the way both of them tense up. I always know when someone is lying to me.
I learned the hard way to trust my instincts. “What are you hiding?” I ask them. Isaac sighs; he knows that trusting me with this was the best option they had.
“We have word that Dominic was seen last night. He’s getting closer and if we don’t do something now, he could make his move.”
Conner doesn’t say a word. He is definitely not happy about this news. I can’t tell if he is more pissed at Isaac telling me this, or the fact that Isaac was right.
“So what do you suppose we do, Isaac? Go find the bastard and then what? We can’t kill him!” Conner yells at Isaac. I don’t know what to say. The thought of them doing something so horrible sends chills up my spine.
“What other option do we have?” Isaac isn’t too thrilled about the idea, but I know by the way his head drops he is considering doing just what I fear. “Look, I know the risks, but we have to do something. The fucking cops won’t catch him. He will come here. Don’t be stupid, Conner. We
