night was hot.
    No, hot doesn’t even begin
to describe it. I can’t believe what he did to me, or how good
it felt. My nipples pucker just at the memory of his firm grip, and
the way his tongue drove me crazy, licking just right.
    And
his cock...I’ve never been fucked like that. Didn’t even
really know it was possible.
    I
take a breath, flushing to remember the way he fucked me. In the
elevator, he had been furious and frantic, almost brutal in his
passion. But last night...Dax tormented me, relentless, driving so
deep, I’m surprised I didn’t pass out from the sheer
overwhelming sensation.
    It was incredible. Unbelievably
good.
    And I want more.
    “Dax?” I call softly,
looking around. There’s no sign of him, and I can’t hear
anyone downstairs.
    What if he’s gone?
I grab his shirt from where he
left it on the floor and pull it over my head. Then I head down the
spiral staircase into the loft.
    It’s empty. Nobody’s
here.
    My
heart sinks. This keeps happening. Every time I think I’ve
broken through to Dax, he pushes me away again. Is it the fact that I
lied to him in the beginning, or something else? I’ve
apologized, I’m making it right by helping him with Nikolai,
and I don’t know what else I can do.
    Maybe he just doesn’t want
this to be real.
    I’m about to grab my
clothes and leave when the elevator rattles back up. The grille
opens, and Dax steps out -- carrying two coffees and a bakery bag.
“You’re up,” he says, strolling over. He sets the
coffees down, and pulls me in for a kiss.
    I’m flooded with relief.
For the first time, Dax isn’t shutting me out.
    “What time is it?” I
ask when he releases me.
    “After eleven.”
    I blink. “I can’t
believe I slept so long.”
    He smirks. “You were out
cold. I could have pulled the fire alarm and it wouldn’t have
woken you.”
“Well, somebody wore me out.” I take a coffee and drink a long sip. “Oh
God, that’s good.”
    “I
got bagels, too.” Dax starts unpacking. “Since you
pointed out I have nothing to offer a woman.”
    “In your fridge, at least.”
I grin, and hop up to sit on the kitchen island. The marble
countertop is cool, but it feels good against my bare aching thighs.
Dax turns back to me, moving to
stand between my knees. “And elsewhere?” he asks with a
flirty glint in his eyes.
    He moves closer, until he’s
nestled between my thighs. He nudges against me, and I can feel his
cock through the fabric of his jeans, already getting hard.
    “Hmmm,” I tease,
pretending to think about it. “I don’t know. I would have
to do a thorough investigation.”
    Dax’s smile slips. “What’s
happening with that? Your story into the club?”
    I
could kick myself for reminding him. “I don’t know yet,”
I tell him, trying to be honest. “I don’t think the club
is the story anymore. But this land deal? The city council, and
possible corruption? That’s a big deal. The public deserves to
know about it.”
    “How very noble.” Dax
stays cool. He steps away, but I lock my legs around him, trapping
him close.
    “Hey,”
I say softly, reaching to cup his face. “What do you want me to
say? I won’t lie to you, Dax. I want that story. That job. But
that doesn’t mean I’m the enemy here. I’m not
sneaking around anymore.”
    He doesn’t look convinced.
    “We
both want the same thing,” I point out. “To bring down
Nikolai, and expose him for the bottom-feeder he is. If we work
together, we can make it happen.”
    “Together?” Dax
echoes, but he doesn’t pull away.
“Is that so hard for you to
consider?” I say, smiling. “I know you’re a lone
wolf and all, but I do bring some skills to the table.”
    He laughs. “I know all
about your skills...”
    Dax
slides his hands up my bare legs. I shiver. “I can type a
million words a minute, and hold my breath underwater for a really
long time too.”
    Dax’s
hands move higher. I let out a moan as he finds my pussy again, slick
and aching
