hard or easy to get her best friend to confess to her what was going on?
“Stop giving me the I-know-something-you-don’t-smile,” Shauntie complained, leaning forward in her chair. “Tell me who he is. I should have known that you would already have an attractive guy picked out.”
“You’re half right,” Sapphire finally admitted. “I have found the guy, but I have no clue what his name is. I only see him from the side or from behind as he’s leaving the dentist’s office. He’s still a mystery to me.”
“Why haven’t you seen the front of him?” Shauntie asked, confused.
What was going on with Sapphire? She didn’t understand why she hadn’t gotten a chance to ask this guy out on a date yet. Being shy or taking her time about something wasn’t Sapphire at all. Sapphire was very outgoing.
“I’m with my patients most of the time and I’m only able to catch glimpses of him here and there as I move from one dentist appointment to another,” Sapphire replied. “Shauntie, he has to be the sexiest mailman I’ve ever seen in my life. His body alone is something that would have a woman rushing to her front door just to get a better look at him as he goes from door to door. He’s beyond good-looking. He’s sizzling hot!”
Ever since Shauntie could remember Sapphire never had a problem attracting the opposite sex. So this guy probably would take Sapphire out on a date during his shift or after whichever one Sapphire wanted him to do.
Her friend shouldn’t be so bothered about this guy turning her down. Women who looked like Sapphire were the ones who left a trail of broken hearts behind them, not the other way around.
“Why don’t you just ask him out the next time he’s at your office?” Shauntie suggested.
“I’m thinking about it,” Sapphire admitted, “but first I have to make sure he’ll even be interested in going out with me. I’m not about to get embarrassed at my workplace if he isn’t.”
“Are you serious?” Shauntie asked, shocked. “Do you really think this guy will turn down a dinner invitation from you? You probably won’t have to finish your sentence before he accepts the date. I bet he’s thought about ways to ask you out and you just don’t know it.”
“I’m serious,” Sapphire replied, staring her directly in the eyes. “I don’t think I have a chance with him. I’m usually very confident about going out on dates, but this time I’m not. I get this feeling he might turn me down”
“He would be out of his mind to turn down a date with you. I don’t understand why he would do it.” Shauntie truly didn’t think any guy in his right mind wouldn’t want a date with Sapphire.
Sapphire took another sip if her drink and then placed it back down on the table. “We both know that some guys aren’t fond of when a woman makes the first move. It puts them off.”
Shauntie couldn’t disagree with Sapphire, but her friend would never know if this mailman was even interested unless she asked him out for coffee or at least lunch. Either one would be a great getting to know you date.
“I think you should go ahead and do it. For as long as I’ve known you, you’ve never second guessed yourself. Ask him out. The worst he can do is say no,” Shauntie pointed out hoping Sapphire would get the point she was trying to make.
“Why do you think I can handle the word no?” Sapphire questioned “No woman likes to get rejected by a man.”
Shauntie did know first hand how much rejection hurt and she wouldn’t want to put that on anyone else, but she didn’t want Sapphire not to go after the guy she wanted in her life. This mailman must have something about him for her to be so anxious.
“Sapphire, you’re a very strong woman and if he does tell you no than you’ll move on to the next hot guy who will love that you asked him out on a date.”
“I know you’re right,” Sapphire sighed, “but I’m still a little apprehensive about what might happen.
