I told you I was Earth Angel?”
“I’d say, start talking. You’ve got eight minutes left.”
Brittany explained as quickly as she could what had happened between her and SD. “So you see, Paul, I just have to find him. I owe him my life, so this is important to me. Tom and Susan will both tell you the same story, if you want to call them first.”
“No, I believe you, Brittany. I think Tom would be okay with me telling you who he is, too. The only problem is the guy never signed his name to the letter. I hate to burst your bubble, babe, but I don’t see how I can help you.”
“What about the envelope? Does it have a return address or a postmark date…anything?” Brittany asked. After another long pause, Paul returned to the phone.
“Nope, he faxed it from Islip airport in New York. He signed it SD…nothing else,” Paul replied.
“Oh! Thank you, Paul! You’re a saint!” Brittany squealed. Sean said he was flying home. If he left Indiana and landed in New York, there was a good possibility New York was his home.
“Saint Paul, huh? Just remember those were your words, not mine.”
“One more thing, Paul, darling,” Brittany said, before hanging up.
“Uh-oh! Here it comes!” he teased.
“Now, darling, be a good little boy and give me the name and address of WKRN’s sister station in New York.”
After another long pause, a few more teasing remarks and a promised lunch one day soon, she finally had the beginnings of a plan. With Paul’s help, and a whole lot of luck, Brittany would find her guardian angel by Saturday.
The next week and a half seemed to fly by. At times, Brittany wondered if she would ever get everything done in time to realize her plan. She had to fill an order for one of her customers, finish making the items she needed for the shop in town, work on her Halloween costume, as well as arrange reservations for the airport and hotel, plus appointments at the radio station in New York. The list seemed never ending. On top of everything, and the hardest thing of all, she had yet to figure out what to say to Sean and what song to choose.
Since the night she’d called Paul, she hadn’t heard anything more from Sean. No letters, no songs, no flowers, no balloons…nothing. He’d disappeared from her world faster than he’d entered it but she wouldn’t and couldn’t accept that. The fact that she hadn’t heard from him only made her more determined to find him and follow through with her plan. She did wish she had more time, though. It was already Tuesday and, if she left early Wednesday morning, she would be in New York within a couple of hours. That would only give her Wednesday and Thursday to get her message on the air and sit back and wait to hear from Sean. She would have to be back early Friday morning to help Susan with Halloween decorations for their party that night.
With Susan, Tom and Paul all lending a hand, Brittany was completely ready by late Tuesday afternoon. Her suitcase was packed, the carry-on bag held all the addresses and reservations she would need, and her plane ticket was on the table. There was still one problem. What did you say to a man you didn’t know, who had given you the greatest gift of all…your life?

The next morning, settled in her seat on the plane, Brittany finally worked out what to say to her guardian angel. All she needed to do now was put it down on paper. She owed a lot of people a lot of favors for helping her with this plan, especially Tom Graham. Without him, none of this would have been possible.
Tom owned WKRN radio in Indiana and had single handedly made it into what it was today. Having a radio station of his own was Tom’s dream come true and it was a huge success. Once he’d heard Brittany’s story about her encounter with SD and her reasons for trying to find him, Tom had agreed to contact his New York affiliates, skillfully persuading them to have her message for Sean played every hour, on the hour, on WZYN
