something wasn’t quite right.
    “You
and Gabriel should listen to the ‘small print’. I said changed , not reversed. I guess it’s your age, you poor thing.”
    “What
have you done?”
    “Oh,
so he is a client.”
    She
had enough. She raised a finger in the air and sent a bolt of lightning toward
Mavis, toasting some of her hair.
    “How
dare you?” Mavis stood up.
    “What
have you done?” said Sadie, lifting her finger again. “This time it won’t be
your hair that gets fireballed .”
    “Okay,
okay. Should he declare his love for a woman, he’ll turn   into a wolf within one month. All wolf . Good-bye Gabriel.”
    Sadie
had to warn Gabriel and quickly, because she had a feeling
things were progressing fast with him and Amber.
    She
dug out her cell phone and dialed his number but it went to his voicemail.
“Gabriel, it’s Sadie, please call me ASAP. It’s urgent.”

    Chapter Ten

    “This
is so romantic,” said Amber, as she and Gabriel lay on the blanket they’d
brought along with them and looked up at the sky. The sound of the waterfall a
few yards away completed the picture.
    It
was romantic but she was about to cry again. She tried to stop the tears
because she didn’t want to ruin it for Gabriel, who seemed to be enjoying it as
much as she did.
    He
turned to face her just as she swiped away a runaway tear that was close to her
lips.
    “Hey,
what’s this?”
    She
turned to him. “It’s a tear.”
    He
flicked what was left of it away from her face.
    “The
world is so beautiful and you’re so handsome, and the thought of not seeing
either of you again makes me sad.”
    “You
have to think positive,” said Gabriel.
    She
hadn’t told him, but this morning she’d had blurry vision in one eye. She had
to sit down because she couldn’t see where she was walking.
    She
simply nodded.
    “I’m
here for you.” He got hold of her hand and squeezed it. “ Katey’s going to get you a dog and train it to work with you. I mean, should the worst
happen. I liked Luc and Katey , didn’t you?”
    “I
thought they were great and perfect together, too.”
    “I
guess Sadie does have a way of pairing the right people. Like us. And you know
doctors can be wrong.”
    He
rolled on his back and then pulled her on top of him. He brushed her hair away
from her face so he could kiss her.
    “You
have an erection,” she said.
    “I
do, but I’m guessing your bikini bottom is just a little damp.”
    “A lot damp.”
    He
smiled and kissed her again. “You know why I decided to have you hike here to
this very spot?”
    “You
wanted to have your wicked way with me.”
    “Well,
that’s part of it. It’s right here that my dad
proposed to my mom almost forty years ago, and they’ve been so happy.”
    Amber’s
heart missed a beat. Was he thinking of asking her to marry him this soon?
Would she accept? Would she let him be burdened with a woman who might possibly
be dependent upon him for the rest of her life?
    “I
wanted to be at this spot to tell you that I’ve fallen in love with you. Now,
it’s okay if you don’t feel the same way about me, but maybe it will come in
time.”
    Amber
shook her head. “I’m in love with you, too. I never thought you could fall for
someone this quickly but maybe it’s the whole Perfect Pairing thing.”
    He
kissed her again.
    “How
about we go for a dip in the lake and check out the waterfall up close?”
    Good
thing she’d decided to wear her bikini under her clothes. She pulled off her T-shirt
and shorts, and Gabriel did the same. He took her hand and they made their way
down over the rocks.   Together they swam
to the middle of the lake, stopping to hold one another and kiss again.
    “I
have another secret to reveal about the waterfall. Race you over there,” said Gabriel.
    Serving
in the Marines had obviously made him a strong swimmer, because he was there
before she got even halfway.
    “What
kept you?” he asked, holding her hand and pulling her up
