an excited group of Junior Rockers at the mess hall to watch Trevorâs Camp Star video.
âThey have this cannon thing,â Trevor was explaining as footage played of a glitter-shooting cannon. âAnd the stage is supercool.â
âIt was huge,â said Erin, another one of the Junior Rockers.
Shaneâs eyes were glued to the screen. âWait. Slow down. So itâs just Tess and that Luke guy singing?â he asked. âReally?â
Jason nodded. âYeah. Pretty much everyone else is doing something, but theyâre definitely the stars.â
Caitlyn let out a snort. âI canât believe Tessâs head will even fit on the stage.â
âAre you sure?â Shane asked Jason. âWe watched it, like, ten times,â Jason told him.
âYeah, you think Mitchieâs mean, you should see that Tess girl,â Erin muttered to a few of the counselors.
âHey!â Mitchie cried, giving Erin a fake punch. âBut this makes it so much easier,â Peggy spoke up. âWe can totally win this now.â Mitchie was confused. âHow so?â Ella sighed. âOh, come on, even I get it. I donât care what theyâre singing, but you and Shane are better than Tess and Luke any day.â Everyone nodded. âBut Shane and I arenât singing together,â
Mitchie reminded them. âBut you originally wrote the song as a duet,â
Caitlyn reminded her back, raising an eyebrow.
Mitchie balked. âI know, butââ
âIâm normally not the kind of girl who likes to sing backup, but Iâd totally do it for you two,â Peggy volunteered.
âWeâll tone down some of the moves, pull the guys back a little,â Sander said, thinking out loud.
Barron agreed. âYouâre our two strongest singers.â
Caitlynâs eyes were twinkling. âAnd we know youâve got chemistry.â
Mitchie really appreciated this amazing vote of confidence. But it didnât really seem fair. âEverybody worked so hard,â she protested. This wasnât the Mitchie and Shane showâit was about all of Camp Rock.
âTo help save the camp,â Caitlyn said firmly. âIf the two of you singing lead could help us win, then we have to do this.â
Mitchie felt incredibly torn. Uncertain, she turned to Shane. âWhat do you think?â
He shrugged. âSounds like we donât have a choice.â
âThen itâs settled,â Peggy said firmly. The counselors and the Junior Rockers all started talking at once about how to change the show.
Out of the corner of her eye, Mitchie noticed that Trevor, Jamal, and a couple other Junior Rockers were slinking out of the mess hall, small shoulders slumped. She walked over to them.
âYou guys okay?â she asked, concerned.
âYeah,â Jamal said, sounding dejected. âI was just looking forward to doing some of my new moves.â
âBut itâs okay,â Trevor added quickly. âYou know, if it means we get to come back here next summer.â He held up his video camera and looked at the images on the screen, smiling.
âYou had a good summer?â Mitchie asked, hating how sad the Junior Rockers were.
Trevor nodded. âOnly, like, the best summer ever.â
She looked down at his screen as a video clip of Trevor and the Junior Rockers chasing after Jason played. Then, a lightbulb went off in her head. She put her arms around the boys and gave them a squeeze, kissing each of their heads.
âEw, gross!â Trevor cried.
âGet off of me!â Jamal protested, wiping off her kiss.
Mitchie laughed, then ran back toward the counselors in the mess hall. âGuys!â she screamed. âIâve got a great idea!â And if it worked, not only would she save Camp Rock ⦠they all would.
A fter weeks of preparation and anticipation, the big moment finally arrived. The Camp Star
