Dominic asked.
“Yes, his parents.” The inspector answered.
“Then this is over for me. I need a few days away from all this shit.”
Webster was at his side. “It’s early. Want to get some lunch?” she asked.
Dominic had a strange feeling about Webster and her motives. He watched her body language; the pretty brunette wanted more from him. Fraternizing with another marshal was not in his work ethic. He’d have lunch then see what she had up her sleeve. Did she forget he could almost read minds? He smiled at her, almost a snarl. This would be an interesting lunch.

Chapter Ten

They walked out of the brothel together. He noticed she was careful not to walk too close to him. He kept his smile inward. She was being so cautious. He knew exactly what was on her mind and had from the moment she approached him. She wanted to get him into bed. That was never going to happen. Not because they worked together, not entirely. It was because he had Shauna. Betrayal wasn’t his MO.
His code of honor carried through his entire life. The twenty years he was married, he never contemplated having an affair. It nearly fractured him when his wife told him she had. Somewhere, he believed those who were good, whom he trusted, whom he honored, would live up to his expectations. If he could try, why couldn’t others?
They walked to one of the black SUV’s, and he slid into the front seat, she alongside of him. He took out his phone. “It’s Esposito. I’m in vehicle number five. Code, please, to start her up.” He paused. “I’m taking it out to lunch.” He paused again.
“I’m glad to hear that about you, Deputy Esposito. You’re a fine man and a fine agent,” she said.
“Thanks, Trudy, but right now I want to start up this thing and get to lunch. I’m hungry.”
“Oh, you’re in Reno. Are you going any place special? I hear that town is hopping. Is that really true?”
He smiled and looked at Webster then leaned back in his seat, letting out a sigh. “Trudy, give me the damn code,” he said.
Webster let out a small giggle. “Trudy, I think you’re wearing down Esposito’s patience.”
“Oh, sorry, sir. Is that Deputy Webster with you? Oh my, here’s the code.” Trudy rattled off the sequence of numbers he needed to start the SUV.
He entered the code, and the car started up. She touched his arm. “Do you have any idea where we’re going?”
“Sure. Been here many times before, and I know a great little Italian joint. You do like Italian, right?” he said, pulling out of the parking spot.
“I love it,” she said, rubbing her hand lightly on his arm. The sensation caused tiny ripples under his skin. Her soft touch was welcomed, but warning bells went off in his head. Her hand slid slowly down his arm. She hesitated for a moment, removed her hand from his arm then let it creep along the front of the black leather seat to touch his thigh. Fuck, he thought. He was right on with his assumption. Sometimes he wished he was wrong.
He wondered how far she’d go or how far he should let her. It’s not that he didn’t want to fuck her, he did, but it was against his code of honor. It’s how his mind worked and always had.
When he first hooked up with Shauna, he didn’t expect her to limit herself to one man. She was young and beautiful with a ferocious sexual appetite. What surprised him was finding out his sexual appetite was just as strong. After a few months, he told her if she wanted to be with him, they were exclusive; he’d have no other man inside her mouth or pussy.
“Who the hell do you think you are?” she had demanded, pushing him aside as she rose from the bed.
“The man you want,” he answered simply.
    “You’re that sure of yourself?”
“Yes I am.  I’ll fuck no one but you. Of course what I ask of you, I will ask of myself.”
He watched the surprised look on her face that night. She crawled up onto him. “You want us to be a couple?”
    “Yes,” he
