the bare skin of his chest where he’d yet to button his shirt.
Leaning down as Justine turned her face to him, Roland kissed her deeply, his tongue finding its way into her warm mouth as he reveled again in the joy and innocent sensuality of this young woman.
“I need to get home soon,” Justine moaned regretfully as she broke their kiss. “How are we going to do this?”
Roland wanted to ignore the question and take her back to bed. Reality wouldn’t let him, though, he knew. There were too many ways all of this could come crashing down for him to relax just yet.
Sighing, he released her. “I’ll drive you home and we’ll figure this out on the way. Our big problem is going to be Mani. If she finds out just what you’re capable of, she’ll never leave us in peace.”
Justine sipped her coffee in thought. “Do you think the procedure you used on me would work on her brother?”
Tugging on his sock, Roland replied, “I don’t see why not. The main reason Mani selected you was because her brother’s blindness was caused by the same type of degeneration.”
“Maybe if you offer to cure him, she’d agree to leave us alone?” Justine suggested.
“His just a kid, Justine . I don’t think I could watch a kid go through what you went through yesterday. I don’t think any promise of a cure would be worth that.”
Justine was silent for a moment. Her jade green eyes wandered around the room. Easily, without thought her eyes absorbed data through the entire spectrum. She saw the neighbors rising from their beds, making breakfast, preparing themselves for the day. Some still slept. A young couple two buildings away nestled together in a slow rhythm as they made love.
Justine wondered briefly if the woman knew she was pregnant yet as Justine spotted the telltale sign of a fluttering heartbeat in her womb.
“What you’ve done is amazing,” She whispered, turning back to Roland. “I would have given anything just to see shadows again…even just once more. What you’ve given me is more than I’d ever dared dream.
“When I first went blind, I thought it would only be a temporary thing. That somehow the doctors would find a cure and I’d be better. I denied it for years. Finally I had to give up my childish dream of a miracle cure. I died a little that day. It was the end of hope.
“You have to do whatever it takes to give this gift to whoever wants it.” Justine ’s voice was soft, but Roland recognized the absolute conviction coming off her in solid waves.
Roland rose from the bed and pulled her to him, her head resting on his chest as he kissed the top of her head. “I’ll…we…will do whatever it takes.”
The smile she turned up to him then was worth any risk, any trouble he’d have with Mani or the government for taking his covert research public without their knowledge.
“Don’t worry about Mani,” Justine assured , remembering the weekend before as her erstwhile friend lay entwined in her arms, their bodies slick with illicit passion. “Between the cure you can give her brother and the…things…I can give her, we should be safe on that count.”
“What can yo u ..?” Roland started to ask. Justine quickly pressed two fingers over his lips, cutting off his question.
“Don’t ask. Not now. Not yet.” She advised, her jade eyes sparkling with gleeful humor as she gently squeezed his cock with her hand. “Maybe one day you’ll find
