work for him; Iâm here to work on something with him. Thatâs not the same thing. So . . .â She pursed her lips, waiting for direction. âCan you please tell me where my room is? I need to hurry and unpack. Maybe take a cold shower to help me wake up. I donât want to leave anybody waiting too long, and I donât want to nod off during our meeting.â She laughed a little, then stretched and yawned.
âI already unpacked and put away your things. You have some really nice purses and shoes. I hope you donât mind. Lex demanded it. Youâre not to really move a finger while youâre here. He wants you to be able to focus on the task at hand.â She pointed toward the other side of the house. âYour room is over there, just through the double doors off of the main living area. Itâs the second door to the right down the hall. You wonât miss it,â Eden said. âBut before you go, follow me over here to the kitchen. I was just about to grab Lex and the others something to drink. He asked me to give you something too.â She moved her index finger toward what Charly assumed was the kitchen area.
âThe others?â Charly repeated, unsure of who was gathered out front. She could see a group surrounding the car, but didnât know if they were helping with the project or not.
Eden nodded. âYes, Lexâs crew. His other crew, trainers mostly, but Faizon and some of the others who are assisting with the landscaping part of the project will be here tomorrow. After that, Faizon will be in and out because he has to be on set for a movie shooting. And Mkel . . .â She shook her head in question and shrugged. âHeâs recording, and when he records, he can disappear into the studio for months, but he should surface soon. Hopefully,â she said, throwing Charly a knowing look. âBut all three of them are super close. Theyâve been like brothers for years.â She clapped her hands. âNow letâs get you the good stuff. Itâs what Lex wants you to have, and I guarantee you itâll pick you up. Lex and the trainers swear by it, and even Bobsy, who hates the taste of almost everything, likes it so you know itâs a winner.â She walked across the marble floor, her heels clacking with each step, then pushed through a swing door.
Charly shrugged her shoulders when Eden wasnât looking. She was glad she wouldnât see Mkel, and couldnât care less what Bobsy thought about anything. âWhatever it takes,â Charly said, following her into a tastefully decorated immaculate space that served as an open kitchen and den. She leaned on the islandâs granite countertop, wanting to lay her head on the coolness. âWhereâs the butler? I didnât see him in the pantry.â
Eden laughed and opened the Sub-Zero fridge. âYouâre really funny, Charly. I guess a butler should come with a butler pantry. I donât know why they call them that.â She bent over and stuck her head inside one of the refrigeratorâs glass double doors. She was moving her arms around, obviously looking for something. âAha. Here it is,â she said, backing out of the icebox with a bottle in her hand. âThis is the flavor that I recommend above the others. Itâs Lexâs sports drink. Itâll hit markets and vitamin stores in a couple of weeks, then will be released internationally.â She turned around and handed a nicely wrapped, black-colored bottle to Charly.
Charly ruffled her brows, looking at the bottle. She was glad Eden had taken her ignorance of a butler pantry not having a real living butler as a joke. âI donât like drinking or eating anything that I canât see, and you definitely canât see through this,â she said, twisting the cap until she heard the seal break. She put it to her nose, and took a slight whiff. It smelled good. âKind of
