thatâs what you want. Weâll call your parents tonight.â
âCan I keep Houdini?â asked Dorsey. âThe rabbit, I mean.â
His great-uncle laughed. âYou bet! And tomorrow weâll send for your things from that school.â
âSounds like Cliffwalk Manor wonât be so lonely anymore,â said Grandfather.
Edward turned to Iona. âYouâve been dropping hints about how this house is too much for me.â
âAre you planning on moving?â Iona said, her blue eyes twinkling.
Edward smiled. âJames is right. A house is not a home without a family. No matter how many things I have, I need more people in my life. A long time ago I asked you to marry me.â
âI thought you were kidding,â Iona said.
âI wasnât kidding then and Iâm not now.â Edward held her hand. âWill you marry me, Iona?â
âYes, Edward, I will marry you,â Iona said, hugging him. âAnd Iâll be happy to live in this great big house. Cliffwalk Manor does have a special magic.â She turned to Dorsey. âIs this okay with you?â
âYou bet!â he said. âYouâre a better cook anyway!â
âThis calls for a celebration!â said James Alden, going into the kitchen.
Soon he produced a bottle of bubbling ginger ale, which he poured into antique glasses. He raised his glass to the ceiling, preparing to give a toast.
âWait!â cried Dorsey. âWeâre not all here.â He rushed off and came back with Houdini, the rabbit. âOkay, now everybody is here.â
âTo the family in Cliffwalk Manor,â said Grandfather. âMay they find the magic of happiness always.â
âHear, hear!â said Henry.
They all clinked glasses, then sipped the ginger ale.
âHow about a toast to the Alden detectives?â said Edward.
âHear, hear!â Dorsey cheered.
Everyone lifted their glasses once more.
âI have a toast,â said Benny. âI hope the next mystery will be as fun as this one!â
âHear, hear!â chimed Jessie, Henry, and Violet.
