of her neck. She dropped to her knees under the weight of the web as the pain shot through her body.
âApril, you led us in here,â Pam said. Her voice was angry and accusing. âAnd now weâre never going to get out!â

April fought back tears. Pam was right. She had led them into the cave. It was because of her that they were trapped under the netâdinner for all these insects.
âIâll find a way out of here,â she told Pam and Kristen. âI wonât give up. Iâll get us out.â
Something else stung her elbow. A line of red-hot fire ran through Aprilâs arm. Her eyes shut against the pain of the insect sting, April rolled over. She heard a ping and felt the thick web stretchâthen give way.
She opened her eyesâand saw that she had rolled through a tear in the web.
âHeyâIâm out!â April cried.
She hurried to pull the heavy cobweb off the others.
Pam and Kristen stumbled out, rubbing at stings and bites.
âHow did you do that?â Pam narrowed her eyes at April.
April shrugged. âIâI donât know. I guess I justrolled through a weak spot.â
âWho cares? Letâs just go!â Kristen cried.
They started running toward the tunnel.
April couldnât help turning backâand she saw that Marlin and the others werenât following. âCome on! Hurry!â she called.
Marlin didnât respond. Maybe heâs too weak, April thought. Maybe heâs afraid he wonât make it. She grabbed his arm and pulled hard. âYouâre coming with us. I canât leave you here!â
âLet go of me!â Marlin insisted, but April ignored him. She stared toward the tunnel on the right.
âThatâs the wrong way,â Clark said. âItâs that tunnel.â He pointed in the other direction. âNo. That way,â Jared argued.
Pam slowed down and pointed to a third tunnel. âI think we came that way.â
âWe couldnât have,â Kristen said. âWeââ She broke off, looking confused. âIâm not sure where we came in.â
April suddenly felt dizzy. Iâm all turned around, she realized.
I donât remember which way we came. I canât tell one direction from another.
They stood in the center of the chamber, arguing over which tunnel led out of the cave. Kristen kept sweeping her light from one opening to the other.
Aprilâs head was spinning. She let go of Marlinâs arm and dropped to the floor again. âSo dizzyâ¦âshe murmured.
âMe too,â Kristen said. Her eyes were rolling in her head. She dropped beside April on the dirt floor.
A scorpion from the cobweb crawled toward them. Its pincers opened and closed. April tried to look away from the scorpion, but she couldnât raise her head.
Too dizzy. Too dizzy.
âThe woman in the blue cloak,â April muttered. âShe has us trapped here. She isnât going to let us go.â
âBut thatâs what Iâve been trying to tell you,â Marlin said, standing over her, hands on his waist. âWe donât want to go. We want to stay here.â

âAre you totally crazy ?â Kristen shrieked.
âMarlinâwhatâs wrong?â April asked. âWhy are you saying that?â
âHeâs right,â Jared said, stepping in front of Marlin. âWe have to stay here. This is where we belong.â
April felt sick with fear as she heard the witchâs song again. She got out of the path of the scorpion, then pushed herself to her feet. The dizziness faded a little. Kristen was standing again too.
âCome on! Come on! Stop wasting time!â Pam cried.
Clark tightened his hands into fists. âWeâre not going anywhere,â he said through gritted teeth. âWeâre staying.â
âButâwhy?â Pam demanded.
âThis is our home,â Marlin said. He too,
