closer and closer. And then, before she knew what was happening, Conrad kissed her.
Maybe it was the shock of feeling his lips against hers, but for the briefest moment, Georgie kissed him back. And then, in a rush of awareness, she gasped and reeled backwards.
âWhat did you do that for?â She looked at Conrad, wide-eyed.
âI just thoughtâ¦â Conrad looked puzzled. âYou know thereâs always been something between us, Georgie.â
âThe only thing between us was that saddle,â Georgieâs heart was racing, âand it should have stayed between us! Ohmygod! That should never have happened!â
Conrad smiled. âYouâre cute when youâre angry,â he said.
âWell, you should know,â Georgie shot back, âyouâre the one who makes me angry.â
âExactly!â Conrad was still smiling. âWe have a love-hate relationship.â
âNo, Conrad,â Georgie said, âWe have a hate-hate relationship.â
âSame thing.â
Georgie was beside herself. âConrad, I have a boyfriend!â
âYou had a boyfriend,â Conrad corrected her.
âWhatever!â Georgie snapped. âYou have a girlfriend!â
Conrad shrugged. âKennedyâll get over it. Sheâs only dating me because Iâm a prefect.â
Georgie looked at him with astonishment. He couldnât be serious! Conrad? And her? There was no way.
âIâve gotta go.â Flustered and feeling slightly hysterical, Georgie snatched up her school cardigan and pulled it on as she headed for the door.
âWait, Georgie,â Conrad was smirking. He was acting like it was all a massive joke. âYou canât go. Youâve got Fatigues, remember?â
But Georgie kept going. She was out the door and gone, her heart pounding as she ran through the stable block and outside into the fresh air.
For the past three terms, ever since she got to Blainford, Conrad had gone out of his way to try to make her life hell â and now, in his own way he had finally succeeded.
Chapter Seven
A lice was horrified.
âGeorgie! What were you thinking?â
âI didnât have a chance to think!â Georgie said. âOne minute Conradâs helping me with the stirrup leathers and the next minute heâs suctioned on to my face!â
They were saddling up the horses for their early morning riding session, and in between putting on her martingale and adjusting her tendon boots Georgie had told Alice everything.
âWhat am I going to do?â Georgie groaned.
âDo you want to date Conrad?â Alice asked, but immediately knew the answer from the look on Georgieâs face. âOK, OK, just checking.â
âHow am I going to tell Riley?â Georgie groaned. âHeâs already hardly speaking to me!â
âTell him you were cleaning a saddle and you tripped and fell and Conradâs lips got in the way?â
âVery funny.â
âWell tell him nothing then! Heâd just broken up with you. Itâs none of his business.â
âI canât do that,â Georgie shook her head. âThe next time Conrad sees Riley heâll be bound to blab.â
âThey might not run into each other again,â Alice said. âAnd besides, Conrad might not say anything.â
âYou really think so?â
âNo, who am I kidding?â Alice shook her head. âConrad will hold this over you â or heâll tell Riley just to pick a fight.â Alice shook her head. âI donât see how youâve got a choice. Youâll have to tell Riley yourself.â
âCanât we go with the âdonât tell himâ option?â Georgie frowned. âI liked that one better.â
âGeorgie, I know you â you wonât be able to lie to Riley. Tell him that it was a mistake. You were upset because he said you were on a break and Conrad got
