onto his back. He grits his teeth as he struggles to pull the gun out of Joe’s fingers before turning it on him and pressing the barrel firmly into the side of his temple.
“So you wanna be a gangster, huh?” Vincent screams, only inches from his face, spraying him with spit. “You want to play with the big boys, do ya?”
Vincent groans in frustration as Joe lays under him shaking his head as he lifts his hand up high into the air before striking it down against the bridge of that fat man’s nose.
“ANSWER ME!” Vincent screams, shoving the gun into Joes temple hard, knocking his head around.
“Look, look!” Joes starts, his voice quivering as he speaks. “I made a mistake, I made a mistake! I’m obviously in over my head! I don’t know what I was thinking!”
“You think you could handle even a fraction of what I do?” Vincent asks, his voice breaking as he squeezes the guy’s neck. “And you want me to pay you for your tiny little area that you obviously can’t even handle ?!”
“No sir, no sir!” Joe cries, shaking his head. “Please, please, you’ll never see me again, I swear!”
“You better believe I’ll never see you again…” Vincent says, sliding the barrel of the gun across the man’s face to the center of his forehead. “I will never see you again, do you understand me?” He says, leaning down to whisper into the man’s ear.
Vincent sits up, pulling the gun away from the man’s face before pulling the hammer and cocking the gun.
“No! Vincent, no!” Olivia screams, closing her eyes as she watches him press the gun against the man’s hand.
“Never, do you hear me?!” Vincent says before pulling the trigger.
Olivia screams, the gunshot momentarily deafening her as she squeezes her eyes, before the ringing in her ears turns into the blood curdling screams of the man Vincent just shot, sending a shiver down her spine.
She opens her eyes, the room spinning around her as she watches Vincent get up off of the man as blood pools around them. He empties the remaining bullets from the gun and drops them into his pocket before tossing it at the man as he rolls over onto his knees, nursing his torn apart hand against his chest.
He walks around the pooled blood, squatting down to kneel in front of Joe before grabbing the screaming man by the chin and pulling it up.
“I think we’ve reached our understanding, don’t you?” Vincent says to him, before pushing him back over.
He stands up, kicking him in the side before walking over to the front door and opening it.
“Get. Out.” He says forcefully as they watch the man scramble to his feet before running out the door, leaving his gun to soak in the pool of blood on Olivia’s hardwood floors.
Chapter 22
Vincent walks over to Olivia and drops to his knees beside her before wrapping his arms around her and brushing his trembling fingers through her hair as he lets out a shaking breath.
She sobs, unable to hold back her tears any longer as she buries her face into his shoulder, the smell of his must calming her before she pushes him away.
“Get away from me!” She screams. “You shot someone in my house! Get away!”
“Olivia, I did what I had to do.” He whispers to her, glancing back behind him at the pool of crimson before reaching out for her again.
She stands up, pushing him away once more.
“You came here to fire me!” She sobs, pointing towards the loose pile of papers on the floor. “None of this would have ever happened if you just left me alone in the first place!”
“Olivia, please!” He begs, pulling her back down onto his lap. “Not at all, please, just listen to me.”
She cries, leaning back into him as she squeezes her eyes shut.
“You brought it with you and everything.” She whispers.
“To rip up.” He says, his voice cracking. “To rip up,
