air.
“Good morning. I was about to wake you up. You have your therapy appointment this morning. I made you breakfast, and after you shower and brush your teeth, you can join me in the kitchen. Sound good?”
“Not as good as you look, sexy ass woman.”
Her face, neck, and chest blushed a deep red.
“You’re sweet. But, you’re not going to trick me back into that bed. I can barely walk now.” Mavis stepped away from the edge of the queen-sized bed in a mocking manner.
Up on his hands and knees, crawling toward the edge, he begged her to change her mind with his rippling muscles and naughty words. “C’mon girl. I promise I won’t bite, this time.”
One foot moved closer, but Mavis shook her head as if to say no. Another step closer while he nodded his head, approving of her decision to wrap her legs around his waist as he drove his manhood into her warm, supple cocoon of sensuality.
“I swear, Jessie. You are insatiable!”
“I know. I think that’s what you love about me.”
Mavis pretended to object, but the smile on her face betrayed her rolling eyes. When she finally reached the edge of the bed, Jessie grabbed her. He tossed her into the softness of the white quilt and pillows.
    “I love you, M.”
“Well, you know I love you, too, but we’re going to be late for your appointment. I told you I would drive you today. I don’t have to be at work until four, and the weather calls for rain.”
He smiled at her. She was already changing his life. Every day, he woke to her beautiful gestures and her warm heart. Every night, he made love to her until she would plead for mercy, then pleaded for him to continue in the next breath. He’d all but moved into her house. And after apologizing again to Brian, Jessie had taken him around to see the sights. He and his Mavis had been inseparable since that night on her porch when he’d professed his love.
All those things and so many more had made his decision that much easier.
    “Mavis VanHorn?”
“Why, yes, Mr. Workings?” Her eyes twinkled with delight whenever he called her by her full name. This time was no exception.
“I need you right beside me. Every day. Forever and ever.”
Her mouth hung open. Jessie knew that this was a big change from what she had become accustomed to with him. Many of the things he had been doing lately were shocking and breathtaking to Mavis. That was what made it so much better. Lately, there weren’t many things that could close her mouth. But he so enjoyed finding every possible way.
“I want you to be my bride.”
He waited, thinking she would cry. Or jump up and down. Maybe both. Instead, she pushed him off her and sat straight up in bed. Her robe slid from her shoulder, exposing her shoulder and an intoxicating glimpse of her swollen nipple.
“Fuck you, Jessie! Don’t you play with me like that!”
She was furious. And cute as hell.
“Woman, calm down. Here’s the ring. Right here. I want you to be my wife. All you have to do is say yes.”
“Are you serious?” Mavis’ bosom heaved with anxious breaths.
“Yes. Yes, I am. This is my mother’s ring. My dad proposed to her again after sixteen years of marriage, only three years before he died. You remember that, don’t you? They renewed their vows with this ring. When I told my mother about wanting to marry you, she gave me this. Now, I’m giving it to you. I love you and I can’t imagine a single day without you beside me. I want to make sure that I don’t have to know what that’s like ever again.”
A bright, wild smile broke across Mavis’ mouth. She jumped onto her knees and threw herself into his arms. Falling back onto the bed, she kissed him with fire and hunger.
“Yes. I will marry you. I would have married you when we first met. I mean the minute we met. I’ve loved you for that long.”
A warm feeling came over Jessie as he hugged her slim frame and returned her eager kisses. The glee-filled laughter turned to soft, gentle
