He drove past the swimming hole where he learned how to swim, then past a field of bluebonnets, then past his parentsâ, his grandparentsâ, and his great grandparentsâ graves. She wanted to get out, but he shook off her suggestion to linger. They passed fields and fields of cattle, then he came to another stop, this one overlooked rolling green hills. Looking at the beautiful vista, she felt something inside her ease. âNice,â she murmured.
âYeah, it does the same thing to me,â Zach said.
She studied his face and saw the same peace she felt insideher. âYouâre in love with your kingdom,â she said, unable to keep a smile from her face.
He did a double take and lifted a dark eyebrow. âIn love with my kingdom? Thatâs a first,â he said.
âYou are,â she insisted. âYouâre as devoted as my brother is, except not as arrogant, thank goodness.â
He shook his head. âI wouldnât call myself in love. Maybe committed. Maybe I need to be committed,â he muttered under his breath.
âHereâs the important question. On your worst day, would you want to be doing anything other than taking care of your ranch?â
He searched her face. âWhere did you come up with that?â
âSomeone in a very poor village in Africa once told me that on her worst day she wouldnât want to be doing anything else. It was so wise. So magical. Iâve always wanted to find something that made me feel so strongly.â
âSo being a princess didnât do it for you?â he asked.
She hesitated, swamped by guilt. âNo, it didnât. I donât want to be ungratefulââ
âYouâre not,â he said, covering her hand with his. âYouâre just being honest. I like that,â he said, his gaze wrapping around her heart and squeezing. âI like that a lot.â

Hildie must have known about the appointment because she called Tina in for early dinner. âDo you know what this meeting is about?â
Hildie glanced at her in surprise. âMeeting?â she echoed. âZachâs taking you into town for an appointment with Dr. McAllister. Dr. McAllisterâs the best ob-gyn doctor in the area.â Hildie shook her head. âWe just wish she would have moved to town sooner.â
Tina frowned, feeling more than a ripple of indignation. âAre you telling me that Zach plans to choose my doctor? If the royal doctors arenât going to deliver the baby, then I think I should be the oneââ
ââItâs just a checkup,â Zach said from behind her. âDonât most pregnant women visit the doctor by the fourth month?â
âYes, but the doctor usually just confirms the pregnancy and gives prenatal vitamins. Iâve been taking prenatal vitamins since I realized I was pregnant. I didnât want the information to be leaked. Unfortunately not everyone at a medical office is discreet.â
âThatâs why I pulled a few strings and arranged an after-hours
