jumped into the conversation. âYouâll hit Good Morning, America and Live with Kelly and Michael before finishing up with Katie Couric.â
âAre you kidding me?â Kenya asked. âIs all of this really necessary? It was just a stupid kiss for Christâs sake and not a very good one.â She had hoped she and Chynna would switch back, and Chynna could clear her good name before Kenya would have to deal with all this nonsense.
Fiona looked horrified at Kenyaâs outburst. âYou canât say that on national television. You have to be repentant and apologize for any miscommunication and that you never meant to hurt Blakeâs wife.â
âThat sounds an awful lot like admitting I did something wrong,â Kenya replied. She couldnât believe the advice Chynnaâs team was giving her. Why arenât they standing up for my sister and shouting from the rooftop that she isnât a slut? âAnd I didnât do anything wrong. He kissed me. And I pushed him away.â
Lucas watched Chynna from the side. Heâd never seen her this vocal, this passionate about standing up for herself before. When it came to press matters, she usually did as Eli or Deacon and Fiona suggested. Where had this combative, argumentative woman come from?He found it extremely sexy that she wasnât going to take this lying down. He understood it. Blake was married and the person at fault.
âI think Chynnaâs right,â Lucas came to her defense. âI donât think she should be repentant. She should explain calmly and rationally that it was a miscommunication and that sheâs not interested in Blake.â
âThen who?â Deacon asked. âBecause you know the press isnât going to accept this lying down. We need to come out that sheâs been dating someone else for a while and not just anyone. Chynna James wouldnât date just anyone. Weâve got to make this good.â
âDeaconâs right,â Fiona said. âWe need someone young, hot, hip.â
âKnow any candidates?â Kenya asked Lucas flippantly. She watched one of his eyebrows rise at her direct question, but he didnât answer. Instead, he stared at her. His eyes never moved off hers in a battle of wills to see which of them would turn away first.
Kenya did. She couldnât take his intensity. It made her uncomfortable and not in a bad way. In made her hot in the nether regions.
âWhat about Emmett Griffin?â Fiona threw out.
âIsnât he dating that TV actress?â Deacon asked, pacing the floor as he tried to think of more eligible bachelors in Hollywood.
âHow about Troy Raymond?â
âNot going to work,â Deacon responded. âHis sexual orientation has always been unclear. We canât have Chynna wrapped up in that mess.â
âHow about me?â Lucas offered.
âSay what?â Kenyaâs mouth hung open in disbelief.
âYou need someone single,â Lucas replied. âAnd Iâm not seeing anyone at the moment.â
âBut, but th-thatâs ludicrous,â Kenya stuttered and laughed nervously.
âNo, itâs ingenious,â Deacon said, stopping in his tracks. âEveryone in your circle knows about your interest in Lucas.â
Kenya colored in response because she could only imagine how embarrassing this conversation would be for Chynna, much less her. She couldnât think of anything worse than having to be next to Lucas for the next week, faking at being a couple to keep the press at bay. âPrior interest,â she corrected, âwhich is why this wonât work.â
Lucas was shocked at Chynnaâs honesty. Sheâd just told him point-blank that she was no longer interested, and instead of feeling offended or hurt, he was even more excited.
âCâmon, Chynna, this is a great idea,â Fiona piped up. âThe paparazzi will think itâs true
