had worn to the office over her head, her long, red hair falling over the pale skin of her bare back. He smiled, a hunger perking up inside him that had nothing to do with the fact that there wasn’t any food in the house.
“Yeah?” Alex said, turning her head to look over her shoulder, a wry smile curling her lip as she noticed him watching her undress.
“Are you hungry?” he asked. “Because if you are, we’re going to have to go to the store. There isn’t anything to eat in this place.”
“I know,” she said, puckering her face in irritation. “The last thing I want to do after a day like today is go shopping, but I think that we have to.”
“Yeah,” he said, shutting the door of the refrigerator and crossing to her. He put his arms around her waist, laying his palm flat against her belly, and pressed his lips against the hollow between her neck and shoulder, inhaling the scent of her warm skin. “Now,” he said, “I really like you naked.” He slid his hands up her body, lifting her breasts gently, and pulled at her nipples, causing them to pucker between his fingertips. “But I think you might cause a scene at the market if we take you there like this.”
“All right, all right,” Alex said, slapping his hands away. She loved it, the rush that she felt when he put his hands on her, but if he continued to caress her in that way, they would never go anywhere. She yanked a sports bra out of the laundry hamper, judging it clean enough for the grocery store after a quick sniff. Slipping a t-shirt over it, she traded her dress slacks for a pair of well-loved jeans and headed back out into the living room, putting her hair up into a pony tail as she shoved her feet into her slippers. She had had enough of wearing shoes today. It was bad enough that she had to put clothes on and actually go somewhere, when all she really wanted to do was peel everything off and sink into a warm bath, or into bed with Rick. She wasn’t going to put on shoes.
“Sexy,” Rick said, tugging on the end of her pony tail. His eyes trailed down her body, taking in the coffee stains on the front of the old t-shirt, the holes ripped in the knees of her jeans, and slippers of the kind one normally sees adorning the feet of an octogenarian in a nursing home, a male one.
“Shut up, you,” Alex said, chuckling. “Let’s get this over with so that I can get home and pass out.”
“Yes ma’am,” Rick said, pulling the door open and bowing deeply before her, gesturing for her to precede him into the hall.
“You’re such a dork,” she said, shuffling over in her beslippered feet and pressing the button to call the elevator.
“Yes,” Rick said, locking the bolt on the door and then testing it to make sure it was secure before slipping his keys into his pocket. “But you like me anyways.”
“You know,” Alex said, sliding her arms around his waist as he came to stand with her near the elevator doors, “I think I do.” Pulling his body close to hers, she stood on tip toes, reaching to press her lips to his in a tender kiss.
Rick slid his arms around her, causing a squeak to escape her parted lips as he lifted her feet from the floor, holding her body tightly against his, and deepened the kiss, tasting passion on her warm lips.
The elevator dinged, and the doors slid open before them. Rick stepped into the car, still holding her aloft in his arms, devouring her mouth as he carried her into the elevator and fumbled to push the button for the ground floor. Successfully hitting his target, he blew out a sigh of relief, and then shoved her up against the wall of the
