insisted on throwing him until Calvin said, âMichelle just called me. Delilahâs at the bridal party.â
âI better get over there,â Samson said, placing his can of soda on the table.
âNonsense. Michelleâs going to play interference. If anything jumps off, sheâll call me.â
As much as Samson tried to forget about what was happening at Calvin and Michelleâs place, he couldnât. Delilah hadnât called him once since heâd left her place earlier that day, and that scared him. He slipped away from the men and walked out on the patio. He dialed a number.
âDelilah, I hadnât heard from you, so I just wanted to make sure things were cool between us.â Samson knew it was a bad idea to call Delilah, but he didnât hang up.
He could hear women laughing in the background. âYou miss me already?â
âAre we cool?â
âDo you want to talk to her?â
âNo. Are you crazy?â
âNot certifiable.â The noise level decreased on Delilahâs end. âIâm surprised to hear from you.â
âJust checking on you.â
âIâm fine, and your wife-to-be is fine too. After the games, weâll be opening up gifts.â
âWhat are you doing there, Delilah?â
âAre you jealous? Would you rather I be at your party instead? You know I can leave here and come where you are. All I need is the location.â
âI would feel better if you left. You donât even like Julia.â
âNo, I donât, but I love you. So if sheâs going to be a part of your life, Iâll have to adjust.â
âMan, what are you doing out here? The fellows are looking for you,â Michael said, interrupting the words Samson was about to speak.
Samson didnât hear him coming, but turned to face him as soon as he realized he wasnât alone. Samson held up his hand. âIâll be there in a minute.â
âIâm sorry. I didnât realize you were on the phone.â Michael turned away and went back into the house.
Samson turned his attention back to the phone conversation with Delilah. Slightly above a whisper, he said, âLeave before any drama starts, okay?â
âYou should be getting back to your party, and Iâm about to get back to mine.â Delilah hung up on him.
Samson re-entered the house and whispered in Calvinâs ear. âMan, we need to go crash the bridal party. Delilah refuses to leave. I donât trust her around Julia.â
âCalm down. Forget Delilah for a minute and enjoy your night. Are you my partner or what? Because Iâm ready to show them who the dominoes kings are.â
Samson decided to take his friendâs advice and relax and enjoy his party. âIâm counting every time I lay a bone down,â Samson said.
âThatâs what Iâm talking about. Letâs do this.â Calvin followed Samson to the den, where the other men were waiting.
Samson sat across from Calvin, and after a few hands played, Calvin slammed a domino on the table. âThirty.â
When it was Samsonâs turn, he counted, âTwenty-five.â
Michael and his partner barely counted. When it was Calvinâs turn again, he shouted, âYâall really donât want none of this.â He counted again. He and Samson stood up and high-fived each other.
Michael pretended he didnât care that he and his partner were losing. âI just havenât been getting any good hands.â
âOh, you was talking noise when Samson wasnât here,â Calvin said as he placed his dominoes on the table.
When Samsonâs turn came around, he turned and looked at Michael. âJust because I feel sorry for you, Iâll let you get ten in.â Samson, with a wide smile across his face, placed his domino on the table.
Michael counted and a few minutes later Calvin yelled, âDomino.â
Samson did
