known you would figure out it was me. I never thought that far past my wanting you. I also should have thought about how it would make you feel to have your application denied, but I just wanted to keep you to myself.
“Paige, Baby I’m just asking that you give me a chance. Let me start things right. Have dinner with me, get to know me. Get to know the man, not the lawyer, not the admissions advisor, not your boss’s son, but me, Bobby, the man.”
Paige blinked back the tears and shook her head. She was so confused. He never showed interest in her before. Now that she was threatening to leave he was hot on her heels. I’ve wanted to fuck you for so long and now I finally have you. His words rang in her ears from their night together just increasing her confusion. Paige knew she needed to get away from him to think.
“Paige, please,” Bobby pleaded his eyes dropping down to her lips. When she didn’t answer right away Bobby started to lean in toward her slowly.
“No,” Paige nearly sobs and pulled out of his embrace and turned to run from the room.
Just outside the doors of the ballroom Paige crashed into a large solid frame and large arms wrapped around her waist to steady her. Paige looked up to find the concerned face of Nathaniel. The tears were no longer in check and started to spoil over. Nathan place a hand on her back to steered her to a set of balcony doors.
“Are you alright,” Nathan asked as they stepped outside, handing Paige his handkerchief.
“I’d be fine if your best friend would just back off,” Paige hissed as she dabbed at the tears.
“Ah, I see,” Nathan nodded. “Bobby can be determined when he wants something.”
“Well I am not just something that he can have. I’m a person with feelings. I’ve told him a million times he doesn’t have to worry about these stupid cases. I promised to stay long enough to insure his victory, but I won’t stay with a firm where I have no future. I hit a ceiling at Mairettie & Mairettie and I think it is time I go,” Paige demanded in frustration.
“And you think this is why Bobby is pursuing you, to secure you staying with the firm?” Nathan asked with his brows furrowed.
Paige snorted. “Why else would the infamous Bobby Mairettie be after me? He can have anyone he wants I doubt he’d settle for this runaway train.”
“Wow, to see Paige Kemble from the eyes of Paige Kemble,” Nathan snorted. “You have no idea how amazing you are; do you? And I see you haven’t really gotten to know Bobby that well either. I’ve dated and come across a few train wrecks and runaway trains, as you put it, and none of them have half the qualities you do. I have only heard of you and just met you but I’ve seen so much in this short time.”
“You’re very sweet Nathan. Why aren’t you married to some awesome woman yet?”
“Because she is either already married to someone else or she is in love with her future husband and is too blind to see it, but too in love to notice me,” Nathan laughed.
Paige blowout a breath and looked out over the impressive view from the balcony. The mountains and trees gave the night a magical and peaceful feel. Paige tried to release the tension in her body and give in to the tranquility of the sight.
“This place is so beautiful,” Paige sighed.
“Yeah, Bobby really is a lucky man. This will be his wedding gift from his parents. James wants to retire soon. He and Minnie feel they are getting too old for a place like this. James has plans to travel and spend time with the grandkids as they come along. This place has been in the family for decades and they can’t bare the thought of parting with it so as the oldest it will be passed to Bobby when he gets married,” Nathaniel explained with a knowing smile.
“Well then his future wife will be a very lucky woman,” Paige nodded and turned away from Nathaniel. She couldn’t believe the sudden surge of jealousy running through her.
“Yes, you are a
