Sir.”
“Minx.” He patted her butt, and Kath could see there was enough force behind the action to sting.
    Lucky thing.
“Now, you’re not being fair, pet. Kath isn’t getting any play time, remember?”
Who told him that? When she thought about it, nobody needed to. There were few secrets between the two couples, and she and Jeff had been conspicuous in their absence from the dungeons. Even though they had their own playroom they used—or had done until Kath’s pregnancy—they had been in the habit of playing alongside others in the club.
“Sorry, Sir.” This time Jess sounded genuinely contrite, and David nodded.
    “Good girl.”
Before anything else was said or done, Jeff appeared with a tray of fizz-filled glasses.
He handed them around and cleared his throat. “Yeah, well, as not much is secret between us, and I’ve been seen buying tonic water and crackers, you may have guessed, you two are going to be asked to be godparents in around seven months’ time. Oh, and best man and bridesmaid in however many months after that Kath decides she needs.”
The second part of his announcement brought a genuine shriek of joy from Jess. “Yes!” She punched the air. “An aunty and a godmother and a bridesmaid. Oh, good things do come in threes.” She jumped up and put her legs around David and kissed him soundly. “Do you hear that? A baby. Oh, my God, will it be a Dom or a sub?”
That was enough for them all to burst out laughing.
“Or maybe vanilla as they come?” Jeff said with a twinkle in his eye.
Jess looked horrified. “Never not with…oh, well, yeah, who knows. After all, I was, wasn’t I?”
She swung down from her perch around David’s waist and hugged Kath before going to her brother.
“Honey-bun, this is so good. The next generation, eh?”
    “Yeah.”
Kath could see the wariness in his expression. So evidently did Jess because she hugged him tightly.
    “Kath isn’t Mum, Jeff.”
“I know, love.” He choked and swallowed. Kath wanted to tell him not to worry, everything would be all right, but how could she? She didn’t know, did she? She saw by the way he closed his eyes briefly and straightened his spine Jeff gave himself a mental shake.
“Right, so to celebrate, the paella will be up in half an hour or so, and we’ve got champagne. Kath has sparkling apple juice, but I’ve promised she can smell the fizz.”
“Oh and I’m going to sniff long and hard.” Kath pushed her nose into his glass and inhaled the fizzy fragrance of grapefruit, peaches and lemons. It hinted of summer, long, warm evenings, and making love on the grass. At least that was what it smelled like to her. She had no idea if that was what a true ‘nose’ would say, but as she’d been told once, describing the aroma of a wine was a bit like BDSM, different things to different people. The comparison had always made her smile. “Mmm, can we have this one once I’ve stopped feeding?” She wasn’t even going to say the odd glass wouldn’t hurt her or the baby. If, once she’d given birth, she thought that, then she’d say so. Kath was fast realizing that when you were pregnant you didn’t necessary subscribe to the same ideas you had when you weren’t.
“A bottle,” Jeff said as they wandered to sit around the dining room table. Somehow it seemed to be their favorite spot when they were all together. Kath and Jess had long decided it was so no one was more Master-y or subbie than anyone else. It was a level playing field. “But for now you’ll have paella then apple crumble.”
Kath’s tummy rumbled in appreciation. She might still throw up four out of five mornings, but her appetite in the evening was growing as fast as the bump. “Thank goodness. I reckon I eat three times what I lose each day.”
“Here, have a carrot.” Jeff pushed a carrot stick in her mouth and Kath crunched happily. She might not want cheese or even the dips the others were tucking into, but her appetite
