blown nearly twenty grand on herself without blinking. Now, her mind was on making it back to her condo. As if her thoughts had been heard, her cell phone rang just as she climbed into the passenger’s seat of Sassy’s BMW. She smiled as she peered at her 6 Plus screen.
â€œHello,” she cooed into the phone.
Sassy noticed the sudden change in her tone and demeanor.
â€œOkay,” was all Jewels said before hanging up.
â€œBitch, who was that? Got you acting all sultry and shit over there.” Sassy chuckled as she questioned her friend.
â€œThat was someone who’s going to reimburse me for some of the money I just spent,” offered Jewels
â€œWell, I hope he got some deep pockets, ’cause our shopping sprees ain’t cheap.”
â€œNow, you know better than to ask that shit!” Jewels laughed.
â€œYo, I wanna ask you a question about the other night.”
Jewels thought she had already satisfied Sassy’s curiosity. “What? I thought you got over that shit. Don’t tell me you ain’t get enough mush!” Jewels let out a nervous laugh.
â€œNah, it ain’t like that. I just thought you would call Ralph.”
    â€œWhat makes you think I didn’t?”
â€œI called him right after I spoke to you and he ain’t hear from yo’ ass.”
Jewels’s eyebrows rose. “Bitch, you a fucking investigator now!” She laughed, hoping the questioning would come to an end. “Well, if you must know, bitch, I didn’t call Ralph, ’cause I think he set me the fuck up. I’m thinking that agency shit is not for me, anyway. I could have been killed. Can you not see these fucking bruises on my face? I think you should leave it too. You got enough clients on your own, and so do I.”
â€œYou right we should. And I sure as hell don’t want to be caught in a situation like that. Besides, we the baddest bitches they got!” Sassy raised her hand for a high five. “And since you mentioned it, you covered those bruises pretty well, or else I would not be seen with your ass!”
Jewels was happy that conversation had ended. She was already keeping a secret house guest, and not telling Sassy about it didn’t sit well with her. But she knew it had to be that way. All she could do now was wait until her guest left, and then she’d tell Sassy the real deal.

Chapter Nine
â€œWhat’s good with you?” Rome said, greeting his right-hand man, Red. The two exchanged a brotherly hug and a handshake.
He and Red had been getting money and putting in work together for over ten years, since they were both thirteen years old. Red had earned his name not from his light-skinned complexion but from how red he turned whenever he got mad and was about to seriously hurt somebody.
â€œHow the money looking out there today?” Rome asked.
â€œNigga, it’s slow as fuck ever since I handled that Arab shit,” Red replied. “And da boys is running wild out there, yo. I was about to take it in early, but I had to see what was good with you,” he added.
â€œOkay. I feel you.” Rome nodded. “And I appreciate you takin’ care of that for me,” Rome said, thanking him.
â€œCome on, bruh. You know I got your back always,” Red replied.
â€œNo doubt, baby boy.” Rome flashed his signature grin. “But I’ma still lay low at the chick crib for a few more days. No need to make it any hotter than it already is. Plus, I still wanna see if them fuck boys figure out anything,” he remarked.
â€œYeah, I been keepin’ my ear to the streets to see if Los and Buster up on anything. So far nothing,” Red reported. “But what’s up with you and ole girl?” Red wanted to know.
Rome’s facial expression became stoic. “Absolutely nothing, my dude. That’s the furthest thing from my mind.” He left it at that.
    â€œI feel you, but
