I know you know already but if it makes you feel any better about our hundred percent honesty arrangement, his name is Kirk Broman. And just in case you don’t know already … he was unforgiving in his pursuit of me.”
“Noted.” Nick says holding me tight within his arms. “Now put him out of your mind because he will never bother you again – that I promise.”

Chapter 12
    ~Nick~
Kayla held onto me all night. It is going to be a while before she trusts me fully again, but at least she is back in my arms. My flawed plan has caused more problems than it has helped. I spend most of my morning arguing with Kayla about her going anywhere. I believe she should stay home and out of sight. She, however, believes she should be right in the middle of things. The woman drives me insane. She is unrelenting, but so am I. Finally, we are able to come to an agreement that works for the both of us. She will do her own work and be a decoy. I send a guard with her that is similar in height and build to myself and have him stay by my wife’s side pretending to be me. It should work decently enough for the time being, all I need is a few hours. Kayla comes down the stairs looking absolutely stunning and I have to smile as she catches me looking her over.
“Should I kiss him … or you?” She asks, pointing towards the guard I have ready to accompany her for the day.
Taking her by the hand I pull her into my arms, “It’s probably best you kiss me. I would hate to have to kill your guard before you go. Besides, I assure you I am the one that will be showing his appreciation tonight.” Her lips fit so nicely with mine that I almost forget where I am. “Hmmm… go before I can’t let you leave me.” Kayla leaves, taking the arm of the guard with a wink back in my direction. Tease. Now it’s time to get down to business.
It has been a long time since I had to fight to gain respect and territory, but no one knows how to take care of business better than me. Dwayne is reporting great results on his end, and Ryan is onto something that may help us with Welch. Reginald had to defect from Estrella quickly before I came back to life. He would have surely been fingered for spying for me. He has freed up some of Ryan’s duties and is doing better than expected with his part of the city. Now it is my turn, and I am quite ready to smash a few heads, but I have a few things to take care of first.
My first task is tricky. I clean up well and make sure to donate enough money so no one bothers to question my presence at a fund-raising event for the one, Jonathan Coulton. The expected Presidential candidate is handsome, I will give him that, and he easily fools people into believing he is trustworthy. But, I know where most of his fund-raising money is coming from - Welch’s dirty connections. Welch is trying to assure himself a Vice Presidency, and he is giving Coulton plenty of reasons to make sure he is. Welch is so full of himself he never notices me, but he isn’t my concern tonight. Tonight I am making a deal with some of the servers. I want Coulton’s glasses - I want his DNA. I have had a hunch about him for a long time, and now I am going to try to confirm it, even if it ends up being to only myself. With a quick exchange of money, I leave with what I came for and meet my sister in a private place to hand it off to her.
“I can’t believe you want me to do you a favor after what you pulled!” Lena immediately begins shaking her finger at me.
“Calm down. If I had told you then, your reaction when you found out that I was alive wouldn’t have been genuine, and you know it. Besides you’re in the clear considering everything is explained by Tanner being my uncle and me being lost in another country, unable to get in touch with anyone.”
“Save it. Oh, you are the most exhausting person! Why Kayla has anything to do with you I will never know …” She pauses and tilts her head at my smiling face. “Shut up. I
