out to join us.
“Guys!” Jasper called out as he came racing from the barn. “Something’s wrong. I smell vampires, lots of them, and none I recognize. I called Trey and Addison through our mental link. They’re on their way. Trey called Avery. Cord and Ty are hiding in the basement with the girls.”
I sniffed the air and smelled something familiar. My eyes went wide when I realized where I’d smelled it before. “Imogen, baby, you need to get in the house and lock yourself in the attic we found, okay?”
“Why? What’s wrong?” His eyes darted around the yard as if he was missing the danger.
“I’ve smelled the vamps that captured you coming toward us fast. You had traces of their scent when I found you.”
“I’m sorry,” he whispered as his eyes filled up with tears. “I’ll go with them. I won’t let them hurt you.”
“No,” Aaron snarled and went over to Imogen. He’d already shifted so his hands were claws, his body larger, eyes solid black, with some scary ass teeth going on. “They will not touch our mate. Please, Imogen. I know you don’t trust me but you do Sasha. Trust him now and do what he says.”
“Don’t get hurt either, okay?” He pulled Aaron down and kissed his cheek before doing the same to me. Then, in a flash, he was in the house. I saw Avery in the distance coming from the south and then turned to see about thirty vamps coming from the west. The difference was they were taking their sweet ass time as if reveling in the fact that they knew we’d be worried.
But we had more help. Trey and Addison were racing toward us, already in their animal forms. Jasper quickly undressed and shifted just as all four hundred and fifty pounds of tiger Avery reached us. I shifted into half-and-half so I’d still be able to talk, not caring about my clothes. I was surprised when Addison quickly shifted back.
“Frank and the other police are on their way. They’re all part of the pack, and I called Alpha Daniels and he’s sending help. I’m just not sure they’ll get here in time so try to stall them as best you can.”
“Thank you,” I said quietly. He gave me a nod and changed back into a massive wolf. Thirty vamps against three tigers, two wolves, and one vamp weren’t odds I liked. However, two of us were Imogen’s mates, and I knew that would go a long way in how ruthlessly we would fight. Then again… We were all family here. Yeah, we could do this if we got help soon.
“Give us the fairy and no one will die,” the vampire at the front of the group said when they were about thirty yards away. “He is all we seek.”
“Why? Why do you want my mate so badly? I mean I know he’s gorgeous, but why do you have such a hard-on for him?” I did my best to keep my tone curious as if I’d really consider giving up Imogen. Yeah, when piggies started to fly.
“Your mate? Well no matter what I say you won’t give him up,” the guy groaned and rolled his eyes. Awww, now the poor baby might have to actually fight. My heart was bleeding for him. Not!
“I doubt it, but tell me why you want him, and maybe we can figure something else out.” Stalling was the name of the game right then, plus I really just wanted to know. “So he’s a fairy. There’s got to be more to this than what he is for you to risk coming into a large wolf pack’s territory to get him.”
“There’s a pack here?” He snarled at the guy on his right. The guy cringed and looked as if he wanted the ground to swallow him up before recovering. “You idiot!”
“How was I supposed to know?” the guy shot back. “It’s not like we’re in with the Council or have shifter contacts.”
“Why do you want our mate?” Aaron asked with a growl. I was antsy to know the answer as well but, personally, I would have let them fight for a while and give us more time for help to get here. I think he realized it when he glanced at the rest of us and shrugged.
“He’s fae royalty,” a third guy
