Even her friend Sandy had gone to Mexico for the holiday. Who else could she call? Oh! There was a new man in her life. He’d help if she asked.
Why hadn’t she thought of him first? Elvis was on speed dial. If she was lucky, he might even be waiting to hear from her. A bad tire was as good a reason to call him as any. If she was lucky, they might end up in her bed again.
It wasn’t as though she and Kurt were officially an item. Calling Troy, her own personal Elvis, wouldn’t be cheating on Kurt.
But if it wasn’t cheating ,why did she feel so guilty?
She didn’t have time for guilt trips. She needed help.
Lynne took a deep breath and hit Troy’s number. She was shocked and speechless when Elvis’s yummy voice answered on the third ring.
When he hadn’t answered after the second ring, she figured he was probably in bed with some other lucky woman.
    “Troy? It’s me, Lynne.”
“Oh, hey.” Her knees went weak at the sound of his deep, rumbling voice. Unbidden memories of her sitting on his face only a few days ago filled her mind. Her face burned worse than any sunburn she’d ever suffered. She would never forget the sensation of his tongue, lips, and teeth on her clitoris.
Her knees began to shake. “Hi…uh…”
“I was hoping you’d call. What’s up? You sound a little stressed, are you okay?”
She laughed, but even to her ears the laugh was strained. Her tummy was twisting and her knees were knocking. Even his voice turned her on. “You may not be so happy once you find out why I called. I need your help, Troy.”
“Mmm, come on, baby. Spill it.”
    “Well, I…I…”
He must have heard the deep sobs across the cell connection. “Sweetheart, stop crying and tell me what’s wrong.”
She touched her face and was surprised to find her cheeks wet. She hadn’t realized she was crying.
She wasn’t used to a man showing concern so quickly. He cared. He really cared.
She swiped at her eyes. “Sorry, the minute I heard your voice I sort of fell apart. I'm not usually such a baby.”
“Yeah, I know you’re a little toughy. Now, where are you and what’s the matter?”
Her heart tipped in her chest and more tears fell. Again, she wiped her face. “I had a flat tire and am kind of stuck on the freeway, and I don’t know what to do.” She paused.
“Tell me where you are exactly, and I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
“Oh thank you. You don’t know how much I appreciate this.” She went on to describe her position and when he said “good-bye,” she closed her phone and went back to stand off the interstate away from her car in case some idiot came along and hit the rear end of her vehicle.
He was coming. She sighed with relief.

Troy looked as if he knew exactly what he was doing. First he used the strange thingy he found in the trunk to loosen the lug nuts, and then he jacked up the car like a professional grease monkey. Lynne peered over his shoulder and watched intently in case she ever had to change her own tire. God help her if she did. What took Troy ten minutes would take her an hour of fumbling and trying to remember how. If she even had the strength to manhandle the whatchumacallit, she was no pro. Troy made it all seem remarkably easy. She couldn’t tell the difference between a flathead and a Phillips screwdriver.
“Look’s like you’re just about done here.” He got up from his knees, wiping the small bits of road and gravel from his dark blue Levis.
“I’m sorry you had to get dirty because of me.” She winced. How was that for a thank you? Her mother would be ashamed of her manners. She was raised Southern to be gracious and hospitable, but her dream guy had her stumbling over her tongue. If you looked down, you could probably see the puddles of drool. She decided it was best to look him straight in his eyes. Even if they did make her insides go all gooey. The words gushed out. “Thank you.”
His smile traveled clear to his eyes.
