evidence, and then a search warrant would follow.
Until then, they were gathering as much information as possible to build their
case against Harvey and his company.
Our dialogue continued and I gave them
Alex and Mr. Watkins ’ contact
information, explaining that they had information as well. I told them about my
sister and her death. They were understanding and sympathetic, but said it was
out of their jurisdiction, but they would look into it and see what they could
do.
They wanted to know why I was in Las Vegas
and why I was in contact with Harvey. I debated what to say, knowing that if I
told them the truth, I would have to expose my plan. I used my sister ’ s death as an excuse to explain my
actions. Looking for a new life was my reason for coming to Las Vegas and as
for Harvey, I simply said, “ You
know more about him than I do, ” avoiding
the topic all together. After all, they were investigating him for fraud, but I
was after my sister ’ s murderer.
Larry said they could use my help. When I
questioned him, he offered information about Harvey ’ s wild trips to Vegas, which I already
knew about. They wanted to lure Harvey into a sting in order to convict him for
his illegal SEC transactions. I wanted to know how I could help. They named the
hotels, bars and clubs that Harvey visited. They affirmed that he was a hustler
and loved women. They wanted me to try to get close him, to see if I could play
him and gain his trust; they would do the rest. I agreed to help.
    ***
The next morning Elaine called me wanting
to know what happened with Harvey and why I did not fill out my time card. When
I filled out the employee contract, the options for payment were every night or
at the end of the week. To receive daily payment, I had to report each night.
That was the agreement.
Elaine was sympathetic when I explained
how sick I was in the limousine.
    “ I
hope you didn ’ t get
food poisoning like Janine. ”
Once she heard my tale, she said there was
no reason for me to apologize, but I did anyway. She was not upset at all,
probably because Harvey paid extra. Elaine was concerned about my health but
once I told her I was fine, she was more concerned that I would be in work that
night. Harvey had requested me specifically and wanted to take me out again.
Elaine informed me he was willing to pay double for my trouble, and when it
came to money, Elaine didn ’ t
like disappointing a client.
She shocked me when she asked me the next
question. She asked if it was all right for Harvey to call me on my phone. She
explained that Harvey was willing to pay $500 a day to be allowed to phone me
and that she would not divulge my private number. Instead, the security company
Elaine used would set up a private line complete with a passcode that Harvey
could call; the call would then be forwarded to my phone with a message that read, “ Harvey. ” Elaine said that every day the pass code
would change, so Harvey would have to call Cat Tails to retrieve the new code
before he could call me. That way, at any time, Elaine, or I could deny him
access.
    I agreed.
It did not take Harvey long to use the
access code. Within hours he was ringing me.
I flipped my phone and it read, “ Harvey. ” He wanted to go to eat again. “ On one condition, ” I said. ” We ride in something other than the
limousine. ” He
agreed.
While getting ready for the date, putting
the final touches on my makeup, I thought about what Larry and Robert wanted me
to do: get close to Harvey.
How I am going to get close to Harvey?
I remembered the previous night, how he
had asked me to move to New York, before telling me he loved me. How much
closer could I get than that? He wanted me, I understood that, but how did he want me?
Oh, God, does he want me to be his
girlfriend?
I brushed my eyelashes with mascara and I
started to think about how to lure him in.
He wants a girlfriend, well then, I will
give him what he wants.
    My hair looked perfect
