canât wait to try it.â
I signaled one of my servers over to the table and placed our orders.
âDid you imagine when we met weâd end up being friends?â I asked.
âI imagined some things, but it had nothing to do with friendship.â
I swatted at his hand. âWhat has gotten into you?â
âI always test the waters when I see you. Cain still hanging in there?â
âYes, he is.â
âLet me know when you cut him loose.â He laughed. âHopefully Iâll be available, but Iâm warning you I canât wait forever.â
âIâm going to have your dinner brought out in a to-go box.â
âDonât do me like that. Seriously, itâs nice seeing you.â
âWhatâs going on with you and Dââ
âDamaris and I are no more.â
âReally?â
âWe broke up about a month ago.â
âNo wonder youâre cutting up. What happened?â
âDamaris had a lot going on in her life. When we first started dating, she was newly divorced.â
âI remember.â
âShe has some unresolved issues. She needs to work them out on her own, not while in a relationship.â
âIâm sorry to hear that.â
âI gave it seven months. Now Iâm just going to wait on you.â
âDonât wait on me. Iâm happy in my current situation.â
âThink about it. If I had met you a month earlier, you would be mine right now.â
âIs that so?â
âI think so. The night we met there was definitely chemistry between us.â
A burst of laughter escaped me. âWe met at the club. We had nice conversation, a couple of drinks, and a few dances. Thatâs what people do at clubs.â
âSee, youâre all in love now so you forgot what a magical night it was.â
I enjoyed Omar. He kept me amused. âI recall when we met.â
âThen you have to admit if our timing was better we could be a couple.â
âDid you stop to think that maybe weâre meant to be friends and thatâs why we met when we did?â
âNope and you canât change my mind.â
We shared a laugh. I remember the night I met Omar very well. We were partying at Ernestâs club. I genuinely had a nice night with him, but Cain and I had just started dating, and I wasnât even considering any other men. Omar had a great job, good looks, was funny as hell and a good dancer. At the end of the night, he said heâd like to come dine at Rituals, and I let him know he was welcome. However, the reason I invited him to dinner tonight stemmed from something else we discussedâhis investment savvy. A portfolio manager at an investment firm, I wanted Omarâs advice.
Our drinks arrived and I raised my glass to him. âTo friends.â
âFriends.â
We each tasted our drinks and placed them on the table. I tented my fingers. âI have news to share with you, and I wanted your advice on something.â
âI hope I can help.â
âCain and I have decided to go into business together. Weâre opening a spa and eatery in the city.â
âThatâs big news.â
âWeâre in the preliminary stages now. We have the building. Weâre filing the necessary paperwork and weâll be meeting with the contractor soon.â
âYou must be excited. Youâll not only have one successful business but two on your hands.â
âThatâs what Iâm hoping.â
âWell how can I help?â
âIâm interested in finding out about alternative financing or investor information.â
âYou already have the building, the contractorâs coming, yet you donât have financing?â
âIâm exploring additional opportunities.â
âHow much do you need?â
âIâm not quite sure yet.â
âHow much do you have? What percentage of the
