turned the water on in the shower and locked the opposite door just in case my mother walked into my room. I listened and waited outside of the shower. What if they knew? What if he worked it out?
A light knock echoed on the bathroom door from Max's room. I barely cracked the door, knowing I had no clothes on, and saw the look on Max's face. He was smirking as he stepped inside of the bathroom. He crossed his arms over his bare chest and looked my naked body up and down. I didn't feel embarrassed but rather proud of my body as he admired it.
"Good Morning, Chels. Dad saw the panties on the floor, so don't be surprised if it's brought up at breakfast. He, unlike me, likes to air dirty laundry at the dinner table."
I had to practice my surprise face. I had to make sure my cheeks didn't tinge pink. I had to make sure that I didn't give us away.
Max grabbed the bottom of my chin and forced me to look into his eyes. He kissed my mouth so softly, so sweetly, that he whisked me away to somewhere else. I was lost in my head thinking of what was going on at that very moment. I felt like I was living in a fairy tale or a dream, and this wasn't my life. I had never felt so wanted, beautiful, or sexually charged.
It was official, Max Jenkins, my future stepbrother, could possibly be the man to steal my heart. When we broke our embrace, I smiled and sighed in pure contentment.
"Before you go downstairs, you need to work on your poker face. Hate to say it, but our parents aren't as stupid as we think." Max ran his fingers through my hair and kissed me one last time before he exited the bathroom.
    Could this be real life?
I was mad that my mother had to marry Gerald. Why weren't situations in my life ever easy? I stared at myself in the mirror practicing all the scenarios, all the things they could possibly say or ask before I washed away the reminder of last night that still lingered.
All I knew was above all, our parents could not find out about us, especially not while we were still exploring each other's bodies and souls.
Max Jenkins would be my best kept secret.

    About the Author

Ash Adams loves words and likes to pretend she is a super hero. Luckily through her stories she can make that dream a reality. When she isn't busy writing and fighting fictional crime, she can be found exploring the great outdoors or lusting over mountain views. She enjoys a good cup of coffee and sappy chick flicks where the good guy always gets the girl. She's also a little obsessed with hashtags.
