her this time, it was to skin on skin, and they both moaned with delight. The urgency grew and when she started to tug on his jeans, he pulled back and shook his head no.
“Missy, I’m trying to be good here.” He closed his eyes and rested his forehead on hers. “God!” The word escaped him in a whoosh.
“Why?” She wrapped her legs around his hips to hold him closer. “Why not let ourselves enjoy the moment?”
He pulled back and looked down into her eyes. Then he shocked her by sitting up and resting his arms on his bent legs. He looked off towards the water. “It’s hard to explain.” He shook his head. When she leaned closer to him, he glanced over at her. “It matters.” She tried to hide her shock. “You’ve got to understand.” He turned and handed her a shirt. She smiled a little when she realized it was his. She put her arms in the sleeves and held it close to her. He sighed and looked off towards the water again. “Ryan and I had always planned to leave home together. Then he left me there and dad got sick.” He looked down at his hands. “After he died, I kind of went a little wild.” He turned and looked at her again. “There were a lot of women.”
She chuckled. “Reece, I’m no blushing virgin either.”
He shook his head. “No, I mean a lot. Buckle bunnies. That’s what we called the women who followed the rodeo circuit around. Their sole purpose is to bag a cowboy and well…” He shrugged. “I was one of the easiest around.”
She sobered. “Reece are you trying to tell me something?”
He looked at her for a moment and then laughed. “No, nothing like that. I’m clean. I mean, I’ve always used protection, and I’ve been tested every year.” He took her hand and raised it to his lips and placed a gentle kiss on her knuckles. “Leave it to a nurse to think that this is physical.”
She shrugged. “I guess I can understand.”
“I guess I used them to fill the hole in my life. I was lonely and thought that sex would fill the void. Coming back here”—he pulled her close, tucking her close to his side—“and making the commitment to stay, I guess I decided I wanted something more. A real relationship.”
She pulled back a little so she could look up at him. “Isn’t that what we have?”
His eyes smiled, but there was still a frown on his lips. “Is it?”
When she nodded, he leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her lips. “Good, then you understand?”
She nodded and gripped his shoulders. “Now, can we pick up where we left off?”
He chuckled. “Far be it from me to leave a woman in need.”

Reece knew what he wanted and where he wanted it, and contrary to Missy’s plans, it wasn’t going to take place in a field in the heat of the day. So instead of taking his own pleasures, he set out to make sure she could take her own.
Pulling his shirt gently off her shoulders, he marveled in the beauty of her pale skin in the sunlight. The leaves overhead shadowed them, causing the daylight to play over their skin. He used his mouth and hands until he felt her moan under his fingertips.
When he started tugging on her tight jeans, he took a moment to appreciate how well they fit. “Thank god for Levi’s. The man should have earned a Nobel Prize for keeping women in tight jeans.”
She chuckled and sat up to help him tug the denim down her legs. He helped her pull her riding boots off, and when she moved to take his off, he quickly discarded them, making sure to be careful around his ankle.
“Does it bother you that much?”
He looked over at her. “No. I was supposed to have the screws removed a while back, but just haven’t had time to do it.”
“Oh, you know—” He put a finger over her lips.
“No shop talk. Not now.” She smiled, and then she shocked him by taking his finger into her mouth and sucking on it until he felt his eyes cross. She was making it hard not to think about his own pleasures when her sweet mouth worked on
