than we usually do.“
Her smile deepened. „Because this is my wedding night? Don’t worry, McCord. All I want tonight is what I’ve always had with you. But if you’d like a little direction…“ She slid one hand down his body, found the poised weight of him and gave him the guidance he said he wanted.
McCord realized he’d made a mistake when he nearly exploded in her hand. The touch of her fingers on his pulsing, throbbing manhood was almost more than he could stand at that moment.
„That’s enough,“ he gasped. He reached down to pull her hand out of the way. „Forget it Bad idea. I’ll never last if you don’t let go.“ He caught her hand and cradled it in his own as he kissed the center of her palm. Then he released her wrist and gripped her shoulders. He had waited long enough. She said there was no need to be extra careful or gentle tonight He’d trust her to know what was best under the circumstances. She wouldn’t do anything that might put the pregnancy at risk.
The image of Pru starting to grow round and full with his baby filled his mind even as he drove into her with all the pent-up hunger that had been gnawing at him for the past two weeks. It was an unbearably exciting picture that threatened to shred what was left of his self-control.
As if she sensed the powerful need coursing through him, Pru responded in kind. Her body shivered and trembled in his grasp. Her eyes were tightly closed against the waves of sensation that were steadily tightening her slender softness. McCord craved the feeling of her body when she was vibrating with sensual reaction the way she was tonight. The effect on him was stronger than that of any drug. It filled his senses and sent ripples of pleasure and power through him.
He could never get enough of her, he thought dazedly as he surged into her. He slid one hand back down beneath her to hold her hips and then pushed himself so deeply into her that he felt as though he were a part of her.
„Yes, McCord. Yes, my love. Please, please, oh, yes, please.“
He heard the breathless, squeezed way the last please sounded as it hovered on her lips and then he felt her body lock convulsively around his. She was beyond herself, her senses spinning out of control and, as always happened, she pulled him into the whirlwind with her.
„Oh, God, Pru.“ Whatever else he said after that was lost as a shuddering release whipped through him.
McCord held on to Pru with a grip that couldn’t have been shaken loose by dynamite. He held her to him with violent strength as together they shared the moment of exquisitely wordless communion and shimmering passion.
They stayed wrapped together in the depths of the wide bed as long moments passed and their bodies slowly spiraled back to reality. McCord waited until he felt his breath return to normal before he reluctantly eased himself away from Pru’s warm, soft body. Her hand moved in a vague, languid gesture, and he saw the flare of gold on her finger.
„My wife,“ he said quietly. The strange sense of possessiveness and satisfaction he had been experiencing since he’d put that ring on her finger this morning welled up in him again. He looked down at her love-gentled face. „You’re my wife now.“
„You’re my husband.“ Her eyes were filled with a dreamy wonder. She snuggled closer. He could feel the sleepy trust in her as she nestled in his arms.
„I’m glad,“ McCord said with crystal-clear realization, „that it’s all settled this time. You won’t run away from me again.“
It was a statement, not a question, but Pru didn’t seem to notice or care. She dropped a tiny kiss on his damp chest and shook her head resolutely. „Never again.“
As she fell asleep in his arms, McCord wondered in affectionate amusement just how much longer she was going to wait before she told him about the baby.
Pru awoke the next morning with a distinctly queasy feeling in her stomach. She felt momentarily disoriented, and
