had me bewitched.
Ethan looked at his watch and announced that it was late. I didn’t even realize how fast time had moved. “We’ll be retiring for the evening and we’ll see you both in the morning for breakfast at seven.” He kissed his mother and nodded to his father who wasn’t having any of that. He grabbed his son and pulled him into a brief embrace.
We got upstairs and it just seemed like there were rooms at every turn. We finally entered into a room that could only be Ethan’s boyhood bedroom. There were photos carefully placed on the wall with various trophies and awards that showed he had been a good student and athlete. It made me feel a little cold inside as everything seemed to be just so. Nothing was out of place, nothing showed that he had rebelled against authority like most kids do at one point in their lives. Looking around, it felt more like a guest room with no life of its own.
“I see you are looking at all my claims to fame but don’t let any of that fool you because most of the things that you see here are things that I did when I was in my youth. You know that my father never hugs me and I have to say you might just bring out the best in him. Father has always been there for me, from bailing me out of jail for drinking too much, or just listening to me talk about my future. He wasn’t happy to learn that I wasn’t going into the family business and it made for some very strained dinners. It wasn’t until I published my first book and started to show a real interest in art that he finally saw I was doing what made me happy.”
“All families have their issues. It’s just that you are an only child and parents of one child tend to impart their dreams on their kid hoping that they will follow in their footsteps.”
“Don’t get me wrong, I was loved by both my parents but my father was never the kind of man who threw a ball outside, or played games with me. He was the kind of father who taught me life’s lessons and made me into a well-rounded person…a person who had more to offer than just a kid’s whimsy. He taught me to hunt, ride, and always keep my true intentions in my back pocket.” That was a telling bit of information and it explained why he didn’t keep his heart on his sleeve.
“Thanks for sharing that with me Ethan. I do like your dad and he can be quite funny as well.” I smiled at the thought of Ethan’s parents courting in their younger days. “I think it’s really getting late now, so we may as well go to bed.”
“That is a wonderful idea.” He circled my waist with his arms and pulled my body towards his with a desire that almost took my breath away. The fact that we were under his parents’ roof only made him hotter for me.
“I would love to ravage you, Mr. Sterling but I don’t want your parents hearing me screaming with lust.”
“That’s nothing to worry about because the walls are thick and virtually sound proof, not to mention that my parents’ bedroom is on the other side of the house. You could scream your lungs off and they won’t be any the wiser, Miss Harris.”
“You underestimate the power of my lungs, sir, and I just don’t feel comfortable with letting you have your way with me when they are only a few feet away.”
“Who said that you would be able to stop me?”
I snickered at his remark and said, “What are you going to do? Gag me and tie me up?” I didn’t know why I said that but from the look on his face I had apparently given him an idea that he was not going to let go. He casually walked over to the closet, pulled out three scarves and then turned to look at me with a fire blazing in his eyes. I was about to be the prey of a very amorous hunter.
“You would not dare, Ethan Sterling. Put that material back into the closet this instant otherwise…”
Within milliseconds, he had me pinned to the mattress with his hands over mine to keep me in place. I was screaming at full capacity but no help came. He pulled
