“Wait a minute, dude!” Jason said into his microphone, holding up his hand stopping the song.

Lance turned to him. “What the fuck, man?”

Jason smiled. “Before we play this song, someone has something to say,” he said, looking over to where Samantha was standing and gave her a small nod. There was her cue.

Samantha walked out on stage with a grin. The look of surprise on Lance’s face was priceless. She walked over to him and took the microphone off of the stand before leaning over to kiss his cheek.

“Lance, three years ago you asked me to be your wife behind this very stage,” she said into the microphone, her voice shaky with emotion. “I said yes without a doubt and it’s been a wonderful three years with you. You’ve made me happier than I ever imagined.”

He still looked at her, speechless. It wasn’t often he didn’t have something to say, so she knew she’d caught him off guard like she’d wanted to.

“Anyway, it seemed fitting I share some news about the next phase of our life together on this same stage.” She couldn’t help but laugh as his jaw dropped open. “Lance, you’re going to be a daddy,” she said calmly into the microphone.

The crowd went crazy and the expression on his face was priceless as he processed the news. They’d sort of been trying to get pregnant for the past six months and were starting to get worried maybe something was wrong. Lance was especially worried that all of his past drinking was the issue, so she knew he would be relieved. She glanced down at the front row and couldn’t help but laugh when she saw Lance’s mom jumping up and down with the excitement of becoming a grandmother.

He got up off the stool and stood next to her. “Are you sure?” He asked softly.

She nodded and looked up at him. “Very.”

He reached out to touch her still flat stomach. “Oh my god, Sam,” he whispered, his eyes filling with tears.

She touched his hand, nodding again as her own eyes filled with tears. He wrapped her up in his arms, lifting her off the stage as he hugged her, his guitar still between them. The crowd went wild again, yelling their congratulations.

He finally set her down and kissed her, his hands cupping her face gently. “I love you,” he whispered before turning back to the crowd. “Can you believe this shit?” He yelled into the microphone. “I’m going to be a daddy!”

Samantha touched his arm and smiled at him before heading backstage, ecstatic that her plan to surprise Lance had worked out.

“Are you ready to continue, Lance?” Jason asked with a grin.

“Hell ya,” he answered. “Let’s get this over with so I can go celebrate with my baby mamma.”

Jason laughed. “Nice, Man, I couldn’t be happier for you guys.” He turned back to the crowd. “What do you guys say we continue this party?” The crowd went wild and Lance started playing his song for Samantha again.

She'd watched Jason and Lance perform this song a million times and it always made her cry to hear those words he wrote for her all those years ago.

    I turn to you
My light in the night
You don’t have a clue
How you consume my sight
I’m lost to you
I’m yours for life

Lance turned to look at her as Jason sang those words and she thought she saw a tear rolling down his face. She nodded and mouthed “For life” before he turned back around. She was definitely his for life.
