laughed.
“What’s so funny?”
“I thought I was going to hate having Christmas in Hawaii,
but it looks like it’s going to be a good one.”
Coolidge nuzzled my neck. “I thought the same thing, who
knew I would find my happily ever after.”
“Don’t you think it’s a little early for that?”
Coolidge dropped one of his legs across me, I loved how
heavy it felt across my body. “Nope, I told you, River, you are all I think
about and now that I have you, I’m not letting you go. So get used to it.”
The revelation floored me and for a moment all I could
manage was, “Okay.” But then I noticed how right it felt and how much I wanted
this, how much I wanted Coolidge. So I did what seemed to be the natural thing
to do, I asked, “Do you know where I want to go next year for Christmas?”
Coolidge yawned. “No, where?”
“I want to have Christmas in Australia.” I didn’t get a
response just the sound of soft snoring. I watched him for a minute before I
shook him awake, he didn’t even ask what was wrong, he just got out of bed
holding out his hand and walked me into the bathroom.
“Now, what were you saying about Australia?” he asked as we
stepped in the shower.

Christmas Tree Magic,
Amber Kell

their Christmas.

Edited by Erika Orrick
Anthony stared at the tree in the middle of his living room.
The cut tree. He turned his attention to his mate, Silver, who stood proudly by
his kill.
“You murdered a tree and mounted its corpse in our house?
Have you learned nothing during our time together?”
They might not have been together long, but Silver should’ve
picked up on Anthony’s opinion about slaughtering trees to celebrate the
holidays.
Silver scowled. “I didn’t murder it! I got it from a tree
farm. It was raised for cutting!”
“A tree isn’t a chicken or a cow to be raised and eaten for
nutrition, it’s an innocent plant chopped down so you can dangle sparkly things
on it for a few weeks!” Outrage filled Anthony’s voice. He tamped down his
anger. The magic barely contained in his body crackled through him, willing to
come out and destroy the abomination in his living room.
“I thought you’d like it.” A tinge of hurt filled Silver’s
voice.
Anthony sighed even as he couldn’t stop the words from
escaping his mouth. “You thought I’d enjoy a dead tree. My mother is a forest
witch.” What had his mate been thinking?
“Oh.” Silver’s shoulders deflated. Anthony sighed. He walked
over to his lover and wrapped his arms around Silver’s waist. “I thought you
would like decorating it with me. We don’t get a lot of time together lately.”
Anthony kissed Silver gently on the lips. “It’s okay. Since
it’s freshly cut I can still fix it.”
“How are you going to do that?”
“Like this.” Anthony turned, then pointed his hands out
toward the tree. He closed his eyes, focusing inward.
