teenage years was to cut off my
emotions.  I am an extremely insular person, the sex aside what do you know of
me?’
    ‘Enough to know that with a bit of time
trust can be built, look at Lucy and Tom,’ he stands, hands in his pockets, his
handsome face angry.
    ‘Lucy’s personality is nothing like mine
she is suspicious, definitely, but is forever hopeful which is why I need to do
this for her. Without hope, she will disappear within herself, it is what keeps
her alive.’
    We are standing in the luxurious kitchen
of Matt’s house, the silence deafening.
    ‘I think I should go,’ I mumble after a
few minutes of staring down at my hands.
    ‘Ok, I will drive you,’ he utters coldly,
grabbing his keys and moving to the front door.
    We drive in silence only this time it
isn’t through contentment the tension is apparent within the small confines of
the vehicle.  When we reach my drive, I turn over my shoulder as I open the
door, ‘thank you Matt, for everything,’ and I slam the door behind me,
hurriedly moving into my flat.
    ********
    Matt skids the vehicle out of the drive,
fury rising within him.  Shit, shit, shit what the hell did he push her for? 
He doesn’t want a relationship, why did he say he did?  He thumps his fists on
the steering wheel before exhaling a huge breath, calming his insides. 
    What the hell was Lucy and Tom thinking
agreeing to this surrogacy thing?  Isn’t Emily entitled to her own life?  Jesus,
he had thrown it all away through his impatience, he didn’t want her having sex
with anyone else.
    He had scared her off that is for sure,
she isn’t as screwed up as she imagines at least she is aware of her issues. 
The whole temping thing, not allowing herself to become close to anyone, that
just proves that she is choosing to be screwed up, she has never had a
relationship as she doesn’t stay in one place long enough.
    He sighs, oh well that is that then,
there is no point proceeding any further with the knowledge that she is going
to be pregnant for the next year!  Why does this information send a piercing pain
through his chest?

    Emily slams the door and stomps up the
stairs she is mad as hell, they had agreed neither of them wanted a
relationship why is he moving the goalpost now when things were just getting
interesting?  Why had he gone from a handsome stranger, who she enjoyed having
sex with, to a jealous boyfriend for god sake?  Why was she mad anyway she
could go out and have sex with any man she chooses?
    Opening the fridge she pours herself a
glass of wine gulping a mouthful immediately her insides churning with anger. 
Damn the man!
     

Chapter Eight
    ‘What do you mean he wanted a relationship?’
Lucy’s eyes are like saucers, ‘I thought it was a casual thing.’
    ‘Exactly my point!’ I fume, ‘isn’t it
supposed to be the other way around, us woman want more and the men prefer to
play the field?’
    ‘Oh Emily,’ Lucy groans, ‘did you mention
the surrogacy?’ she rolls her pretty green eyes up to her blonde hair.
    ‘Yes, but that wouldn’t have made a
difference Lucy, the fact remains that I am not ready for a relationship.’
    ‘How do you know?’ she scowls, ‘I never
knew with Tom. I hadn’t had a proper relationship until I met him and he swept
me off my feet.’ Her eyes implore me to comprehend.
    ‘Yes, but Matt didn’t Luce, he dropped me
off and skidded up the road,’ I express, her eyes widen.
    ‘Was that Matt?  I heard that the other
night! Well, he was obviously upset.’
    ‘I don’t know, life is less dramatic
without men in my opinion.’ I sigh.
    ‘Maybe, but not half as exciting,’ Lucy
grins before whispering, ‘what about the sex?’
    ‘I know right! I have just discovered it
and lost it within a few weeks,’ I grin back, ‘when all this surrogacy is
over…..’ I leave the rest to her imagination.
    ‘Tom still isn’t happy,’ Lucy mumbles her
gaze moving down to her fidgety hands, ‘but we are
