she was looking forward to it, but deep down was naturally apprehensive, not knowing how much Nate had told her about their relationship.

As they drove into Glasgow to the offices of McKnights where they were due to collect Ethan, Deanna sighed at the familiar sight of the city she loved. She could hear Holly in her seat babbling with excitement as the buildings zoomed past the window. Nate leaned over and grasped Deanna’s hand, knowing she was nervous and she smiled happily at him.
As they arrived outside McKnights they waited for Ethan to emerge. They would then drive to the brothers mum ’s apartment situated on the River Clyde forty minutes away in the little seaside town of Largs in Ayrshire.
Deanna got out of the car to let Ethan sit in the front and he pulled her into a hug, ruffling her hair in a brotherly way.
“Right, we need to get going. Mum will have my balls if we don’t get there on time,” Nate said after greeting Ethan, opening the back door to let Deana in to sit with Holly, kissing her on the cheek as she passed.
“ Wait. I want to meet the wee girl that has you actin’ like a big nancy. I couldn’t believe it when the blokes told me you were smitten with a wee baby. Never thought I’d see the day,” Ethan said jokingly, nudging his brother in the shoulder.
Deanna reached in and unclipped Holly lifting her out of the car. Holly gave Ethan one of her dazzling toothy smiles and Deanna could see the immediate affect it had on him.
“Jesus, she’s a beauty. She’s the spit of you Deanna. Hello gorgeous girl, I’m your Uncle Ethan.”
He took Holly from Deanna ’s arms, his easy going nature instantly winning her over and she babbled a welcome in reply. Ethan cooed to Holly not realising he was doing exactly the same thing that he’d just been making fun of his brother for.
Nate and Ethan gathered round a giggling Holly, completely forgetting that they needed to reach their mother ’s home on time. Deanna interrupted the trio.
“ Do you want me to take Holly? I know you said we need to get going so we’re not late.”
Ethan reluctantly handed Holly back to Deanna. As she turned to put her back in her seat she heard Ethan whisper to Nate.
“Now I can see why you’re so smitten with them. You’re a lucky bastard.” This brought a secret smile to Deanna, pleased with his acceptance.
As they drove Deanna pointed out to Holly the different sights, also joining in with the easy banter between the brothers.
Eventually they pulled up in front of a modern apartment complex sat on the banks of the River Clyde, Deanna wiped her sweaty palms on her pants as she held Holly and climbed out the car. The view was beautiful, the sun reflecting off the river’s surface framed by mountains across the water and a ferry boat travelling to an island in the distance.
Nate held her hand as they walked to the nearest door and were buzzed into the building. They were greeted by an older woman who grabbed Ethan and Nate into a hug. Standing with Holly, Deanna could see the resemblance between Alice and her sons. She was a good looking slender middle-aged woman with grey streaks in her brown hair and dark brown eyes that were exactly the same as Nate ’s. The lady pulled back and looked to Deanna with a friendly welcoming smile.
“ Hello hen. You must be Deanna. I’m Alice,” she said as she walked forward to embrace Deanna.
Alice pulled away looking at Holly and the older woman ’s eyes filled with a tender expression as she stared at the child.
“ This must be Holly. Why you’re just as pretty as your ma. I’m Grandma.”
Deanna was a little startled at this declaration but happy that they ’d been welcomed into the family. She handed a wriggling Holly to Alice, who’d obviously won over another of the Gunn family members.
“ I don’t know how she does it. That wee girl is like magic. One smile and you’re a goner,” Nate said as he looked at Deanna grinning broadly. Kissing
