other things fit for a queen, but she found more delight in a much less expensive charm bracelet because it represented our child.

I went to work smiling and happy, my step was lighter, things were coming along just fine. If all goes well I would soon know the whereabouts of my enemy and I could close the book on this chapter in our lives.
I should've known better than to let my guard down.

I was in the middle of a consultation when I got the call. When I saw My baby calling my heart almost stopped, I knew she had a class at this hour, I knew her whole schedule down to the second.
"Excuse me I have to take this."
    "Go right ahead Dr. Thornton."
I excused myself and walked over to the window.
"Baby, what's wrong?" Fuck me she was crying too hard to talk.
    "Mom, mom, my mother,......."
"Where are you?" I didn't mean to bark but that's just what it sounded like.
    "School, come."
    "Is she there right now?"
    "Ran away...hiding..."
"Stay on the phone I'm coming."
I ran out the office with my heart in my throat.
"Dad I need you, I gotta go....."
    "Is it Delia, the baby?"
"I don't know, her mother is at the university I gotta go, I have Mrs. Singleton in my office for a consult can you cover."
"Go ahead son, call me as soon as you can."
"Will do." I yelled back over my shoulder as I ran out the building.

I didn't force Delia to talk just listened to her breathing and talked to her calmly, telling her I was coming to get her.
"I'm on my way babygirl, I'll be there soon, how's peanut, she okay?"
"Ye....yes, nothing hurts, she just, she scared me, she was so angry and I thought....I thought...."
    "You thought what baby?"
"I thought she was going to hit me?" Her small little frightened voice was the last fucking straw. Fuck this shit.
I had her give me directions to where she was hiding out in the outer room of the Dean's office and ran in to get her, I didn't  see any sign of Joann, lucky for that bitch.

Kneeling in front of a frightened Delia I folded her into my arms and stood. I thanked the elderly lady behind the desk and told her I'd be taking it from there since she seemed genuinely concerned for my girl.
"When you're ready to make a complaint let me know." She handed me a business card with her name on it and I left.
I walked out making sure there was no danger around, I'd forgotten how snakes reacted when cornered. I knew it was a bad idea to let her come back here now, but I also thought they'd heed my warnings, apparently not, well we'll see about that.
I buckled her into my car and drove away. She was curled into a ball, how many times had I seen her like this after they'd fucked with her, this wasn't supposed to be happening, her marriage to me was supposed to put an end to their tyranny. They wanted to play hardball, okay, it's on.
I took her home, gave her a bath and made her some tea before asking her any questions.
    "Okay, from the beginning."
" I went to lunch with some of the other girls, when I got back she was just there on campus, I didn't even know she knew what classes I had and where to find me."
    She was starting to hyperventilate.
    "Deep breaths baby, come on."
She calmed down enough to tell me that after she had dismissed the other girls telling them that it was her mother, Joann had ripped into her, accusing her of having them thrown out of the country club and trying to run them out of town.
"Why does she think I did those thongs Chase, how could she?"
I had to tell her the truth.
    "Because I did it."
    Her mouth fell open.
"I told you what I was going to do."
    "I know but......"
"There's no but, it's done and now after this little stunt things are just gonna get worse for her, them, don't even think about pleading their case with me, you'll never win."
Then I dropped the hammer on her and watched the life almost die out of her eyes.

    "My sister........."
I nodded my head and barely made it out of the way as she ran for the bathroom where she was
