and pushed against an enticing spot on his chest. She stifled a moan. Just yesterday that spot had been pressed against her aching breasts.
“Please stop.” She swallowed, trying to ignore her racing heart. “Let me wake up…get my bearings.”
It had to be an ungodly hour, yet he’d come awake in an instant, something she’d never been able to do. In her opinion, the snooze button was the best of man’s creation.
His breath fanned above her, threatening to send shivers down her body. She ducked, biting her lip, unwilling to show that kind of vulnerability again, especially to him.
    …
Kris straightened, settling his hand over the curve of her waist. The warmth of her skin burned through the sheet to sear his palm. The shirt had likely twisted around her while she turned, leaving her bare…from the waist down.
An eternity went by as they remained in the same spot, impossibly close, fueling urges at all the wrong places. His fingers itched to curl around her waist, pull her against him until the thigh he had between her knees was up against—
Time to get up . He opened his mouth to tell her, but he couldn’t string together the words. Tessa’s gaze was centered on his chest, where her fingers tapped his sensitized skin. Her front teeth bit her bottom lip until she flattened the center. She’d have perfect little indentions. He’d like to run his tongue across the spot, kiss each little section of the seam she created.
Keeping the carnal thoughts to himself, he eased out of bed, giving her his back. If she looked up and her expression was all soft and alluring, he wouldn’t give a damn about keeping his hands off of her.
He shook his left arm, letting blood flow freely. The bed had done a number on him, also, though not all the stiffness in his body was due to the bed.
First things first, he had to get Tessa taken care of, then he had to get going. “I’ll get your meds.”
She pushed herself up on her right arm and jerked back, hissing. Kris put the water bottle down by her lap and slipped his arm behind her to provide support. He tucked a few hair strands behind her ear. Damn Oscar for his impulsive attack.
“Thank you,” she mumbled, cradling her arm to her chest.
He handed her two pills then reached for the water, twisting off the top. She took the container and downed the pills, still looking skittish. “Do you need to get up?” She shook her head. He set her back and reached around for the tin. Popping it open, he ran his middle finger across the smooth top, bringing a layer of salve to her wrist. He set his jaw, making sure to cover every red loop. “Sleep for a while, it’s still early.” He tucked the sheet around her. “I’ll bring breakfast in a while.”
    …
    Bastard tricked me.
Felipe stood against the block fence, lit cigarette in hand. He exhaled, glowering at the upstairs room through the cloud of smoke. That hot, little piece was sitting up there all alone, for the time being. Fuckin’ Kris. How the hell did he manage to end up with the girl? What gave him the right to keep her from anyone else?
Cruz came through the kitchen door and ambled over. “Who pissed in your corn flakes?”
“Mind your fuckin’ business, fat man.”
Cruz chuckled, his crooked nose making the sidelong smirk that much more irritating. “I know what you’re thinking.” Felipe snorted. “Don’t do it.” Cruz took a drink from his beer.
“You don’t know shit.” Unease settled over him. Cruz had a way of looking through someone and figuring out their next move. His ability to read people and his ruthless nature made him a top notch enforcer. Hell, he’d had nightmares about hearing labored breathing coming from a dark corner of his bedroom.
Cruz ran his wrist over his lips, catching a dribble of liquid that slid across his mouth. “I been doing this a long time. I know you’re pissed, and I know you’re wanting to get you some.” He held up the beer, pointing at the window to
