some information because I was paying twenty grand. Money always has a way of loosening lips.
I was saved from replying when two suits entered my room without even knocking.  One of them was a detective I knew in passing. Parker was a short fat middle aged white guy who frequented Glitter at least three times per week. He loved getting private lap dances from that trick Keya. I wasn’t familiar with his partner. He was a tall, lanky guy in his early to mid-thirties with an olive complexion and a mustache. He introduced himself as detective Web.
I wasn’t going to tell the pigs anything pertinent, but I knew the importance of acting like I wa s cooperating with them. I could make them believe what I wanted them to believe and they would not suspect that I was withholding information because I was trying to seek my own justice.
“We just want to ask a few questions. We know you’re in pain , so we’ll try to make it quick,” Parker said with a writing pad and pen in hand. “You’re the owner of the club where the altercation took place?”
I didn’t know if he didn’t recognize that I was the owner of his favorite haunt , or if he didn’t want his partner to know he patronized strip joints, but Detective Parker didn’t acknowledge that we were familiar. That was fine by me.
“Yeah,” I replied. “We were celebrating the club ’s opening last night.”
“Did you have any disputes with an yone while you were partying?” He asked after scribbling something on his paper.
“No, everyone was just having fun. No one had any time for beefing.” I knew the people who saw me kicking Dread from my club wouldn’t dare talk to the police. One thing about the ghetto was that people knew to keep their mouths shut before someone closed it for them permanently.
“What about in general? ” Detective Web asked. “Do you have any enemies in general?”
I had a few of those , but at the moment two names were most prevalent in my mind. I had a feeling that one, or both of them were responsible for my injury. “No,” I lied.
“And do you by any chance know the assailants?”
I shook my head in the negative. “No.”
They asked a bunch of other questions, but I was sticking to my story. I couldn’t identify the assailant, didn’t know how many of them there were, and didn’t know what type of vehicle they were driving. My answers were always no, no and I don’t know. After questioning Angel and not getting any useful information from her either, they finally got the point that we didn’t know shit. They stopped wasting their time and bounced leaving me their card to call them if I remembered anything. Fat chance of that happening.
As soon as the detectives walked out the door Lux and Biz walked in.
“Tell me you got something useful for me,” I said by way of greeting.
“Wish I h ad better news my nigga being that you’re laid up in this bitch, but that move was a bust,” Lux replied as he and Biz both gave me a fist bump.
“Sexy , can I get some ginger ale from the vending machine please,” I begged my wife. I didn’t want her in the room for the conversation I was about to have in case my dudes said anything incriminating. I was always up front with her when it came to general information because I didn’t want her walking around blind, but when it came to specifics I kept her in the dark. I wasn’t going to put my wife in the position where she had to perjure herself because she knew too much.
She understood where I was coming from . She gave me a quick kiss on the forehead and left the room without a fight. “Don’t get too worked up while I’m gone because you need your rest,” was her parting remark.
“So what exactly happened?” I propped myself up on the pillows and had to groan in pain because I jostled my shoulder.
Biz was the quiet one of the two, so Lux was the one who gave me the recap. “We were following old boy’s ride and as soon as we got on the highway we got
