women moan,” I shot at them before turning back toward the barn to grab Storm.
“I’ve got no problem bringing out Amber’s loud side,” Ryan called after me.
“I don’t get any complaints,” Noah offered.
His comment made me chuckle despite how pissed off I was at them. “Well, brother, you ain’t getting any complaints because you ain’t getting any, period.”
I knew I hit a nerve when he didn’t fire back. Instantly, I felt bad for saying that.
Like Ryan, Noah also had a woman in his past. Her name was Stacy, and five years ago, they were engaged to be married before Noah found out she had been secretly planning their escape from Livingston. She had big dreams of starting a new life someplace bigger and more “exciting.” Noah didn’t share those dreams, and when she realized she had no hope of changing his mind, she chose to leave him behind.
It wasn’t meant to be, yet I don’t think he has truly gotten over her.

Carla had left in the middle of night, leaving behind a note explaining that Jonathan was picking her up from the airport, whoever the hell that was. Of course, she didn’t thank Am for giving her a place to stay, which only showed just how selfish she truly was. Amber was used to her mother’s behavior, but it still drove me crazy. Still, I was relieved that I could now move past the emotions she had stirred up in me. I could only hope that one day my mother would do the same and go back to being the bright, vibrant woman she once was.
I spent the day with Amber, and Olivia joined us when school let out. Amber had started sharing her baking secrets with Liv, and in a short time, that girl had become quite the little sugar slinger. But when things were wrapping up at the bakery, I was faced with a dilemma. Now that Carla was no longer staying in our apartment, I honestly had no reason to stay away, but I was hesitant about returning. Still, I didn’t want to assume Jackson would want me to keep staying at his place. Yes, things had changed between us, but I didn’t want to wear out my welcome.
I worried about my choice all afternoon and finally decided to go upstairs instead of heading to the ranch or his house. After settling in, I took a very long, very hot shower before putting on some comfortable clothing and curling up on the couch for a movie. I had just gotten into the show when the buzzer to the apartment sounded, startling me. Knocking followed shortly after and continued until I opened the door.
I didn’t even get a word out before Jackson rushed through, spun me around, and pinned me against the wall. His mouth was on mine instantly, hard and hungry, and his body pressed against mine made me feel so small. I could feel him everywhere, and the passionate way he devoured my lips made breathing hard.
“You didn’t show up,” he growled before taking my mouth once more. “I waited, and you didn’t come back.” I could feel his excitement pressed against my stomach as he roamed his hands over my body, then cupped my breasts and kneaded them appreciatively. “So I came to find you.”
“I didn’t know if the offer still stood now that Carla is gone.” I rushed out the words before he kissed me once again.
“The offer is open-ended, sweetheart. I want you in my bed. After last night, you have no hope of escaping me. I guarantee you, darlin’, you are mine.”
I loved the sound of that.
He slid his hand farther down and dipped into the front of my pajamas pants. I hadn’t taken the initiative to put anything on after my shower, so he had easy access. Giving me no time to prepare, he moved his hand lower and pushed his finger inside of me, growling when he found I was already wet.
“That’s my girl,” he whispered as he began to move his hand, creating the perfect friction. I moaned as I shamelessly shifted my hips with his movements.
Just as I was about to go off, he withdrew his hand,
