and sighed then giggled.
“It was so fast. I literally ran
into him when I was leaving and it just started, like that.” Amy snapped. “His
mouth was all over me and the next thing I knew we were in his room getting
undressed as fast as we could.” Krista held up a hand. “Sorry.”
“Yep still in the dry spell, cut me
some slack. I’m hoping for a nice distraction to keep me warm in Norway.”
Krista waggled her eyebrows and Amy laughed.
“You better hope they aren’t all
like Gunnar or he’ll never shut up. That man could bore paint off a wall.” Amy
glanced down at the agenda again. “I wish he’d spoken last night, maybe if he
had I could track him down somehow.
“No time for that now sis, packing
and Norway. When we get back though I will make it my mission to call around and
find him for you. If he’s top in his field, then he shouldn’t be that hard to
find.” Amy threw the piece of paper in the trash. “Don’t let me forget to take
that to the curb, I don’t want to smell this place in six months if we leave it
here.” Amy scrunched her nose up at the thought. “I’m going to miss this
place.”
“I’m going to miss my cozy lab.
It’s cold in Norway.” Krista sighed. She wasn’t a big fan of cold. “Gunnar
insists though that the rest of the work be done there. He’s closing his
stateside lab because it’s too expensive so I guess we have no choice.”
“I know. I know. Amy, can you jot
down a list of things to cover in the contract from now on? I mean really. No
permanently relocating the family to other countries! I’m just glad he agreed
to pay the rent here and there. That’s a bonus but still, no relocating.”
“I know you’re right sis, I know.
Believe me it is not my idea of a good time either. I promise to work as fast
as I can and wrap this up so we can get back home. Okay?” Krista nodded sadly.
She hated snow but then too there would be a whole country full of men that she
hadn’t dated yet. That made Amy smile.
Chapter 10
Time in Norway passed quickly.
Krista took care of Olivia and the house while Amy worked. Amy concluded the
project from their trip to the pole. It had taken the better part of three
years to get the results that they wanted but the work was done to Gunnar’s
satisfaction. Amy was taking the next six months off. She felt like she
deserved it especially after what she found out three months ago.
Gunnar’s company won a huge grant
from their government because of her work and now there were four companies
negotiating for her. Amy needed to rest. She’d worked at breakneck speed in
Norway to finish on time and to prove that her results and theories were
correct. Now, she was negotiating with the four companies for six months paid
in advance with medical so she could deliver her little surprise and have
maternity leave. They all needed time to think about it. Nobody wanted to give
her that up front.
She supposed that they were all
afraid that she would back out of the deal after six months. If it was written
in the contract, she was bound to the agreement, no big deal as far as she was
concerned. All had expressed that she could work the first three months then
take maternity leave but Amy needed a break. She was tired. This pregnancy was
really taking it out of her and it was all she could do to stay awake for twelve
hours a day let alone her usual sixteen. Her pregnancy with Olivia was nothing
like this and Amy wondered if this one was a boy. She hoped it looked like
Liam. He was so beautiful. She needed to find him.
“Careful sis.” Krista helped her
sister navigate the steps by taking her elbow. “Olivia, honey stay close.”
Krista was always vigilant about Olivia’s safety and proximity. She’d turned out
to be more responsible than Amy could have ever dreamed. Olivia always behaved
for Krista because Krista didn’t let her get away with anything. Amy usually
let her slide on the small stuff. Motherhood had softened her up she
