the same in return.” She sighed and smiled the secret smile. “It
always takes the full four weeks for them to earn our respect. I predict Talon
will submit to the lesson after the first punishment and not expect to hear us
use his title. He seems to be very eager to please, even at this early stage.”
Lydia laughed to herself. She couldn’t help
it. To her it seemed like such a trivial thing, but she was learning there was
nothing trivial about anything the teachers did. They tried to keep the young warriors
off balance while gently, and sometimes forcefully, molding them into males who
knew how to treat females with respect and gentleness.
Back on Earth, her friends had tried a
similar tactic with their boyfriends and husbands. It was known as the be-sweet-or-no-treat
method. Unfortunately, it rarely worked for very long. Human males weren’t
nearly as trainable. They tended to stray off the porch way too often.
Tauran warriors weren’t anything like human
males. The warriors were fierce brutes, capable of killing their enemies
without a second thought. Hand-to-hand combat turned into a blood bath quite
literally since their blades easily sliced all the way through an enemy’s bones,
depending upon how much force the warrior used. It was usually all or nothing.
If it was worth the effort to them, they tended to go all out, which was why it
was so important for them to learn how to conduct themselves around females.
“I wanted to leave the room for a moment to
tell you this in case you’d like to observe the training of a warrior entering
his second week,” the teacher said. As Lydia and Takoora nodded eagerly, she
continued. “You’ll have many opportunities to see the new blades in their first
week of lessons. As you saw, Talon is focused on his own needs right now. We
soothe him to ease his rage so his body and mind can separate pain from
pleasure. In two or three days, the Giver of Pleasure will mount him. This is
when he’ll transition and take an interest in his teacher’s pleasure. It’s a
subtle shift. Right now, we have a new blade who is presenting his teachers
with a challenge. From what I’ve heard, he’s quite persistent.”
    “Is he violent?” Lydia asked.
The teacher laughed softly and shook her
head. “No, he was well-trained during his first week and transitioned quite
easily. If anything, he’s too willing to please. Go and observe. I’m curious as
to how his teachers are going to help him. Since I’ll be busy for a few hours
with Young Talon, please report back to me and let me know how the teachers
resolved the problem they’re having with Young Pagan.” Makita quickly replaced
her mask and hood before going back in to rejoin her partner.
Lydia and Takoora raced down the corridor.
Coming to a juncture, they turned right and came to a stop in front of a tall
double-door entryway. Lydia pushed one of the heavy wooden doors open and she
and Takoora peeked inside. They looked down another long corridor. At the far
end were half a dozen teachers, conferring. One of them broke away from the
group and motioned for her and Takoora to come closer. Once they were a few
yards away, the teacher pointed to a small narrow door and ushered them toward
the entrance. Lydia opened it, entered the passageway and climbed the steps up
to another observation room, much like the one in the blading room.
This one was a little different. It was
enclosed. A long sheet of one-way glass took up the space where the balcony
ledge would have been. Several initiates and a few teachers peered down into a
room. Apparently, Young Pagan created a great deal of interest with his
actions. She and Takoora rushed to join the other women. The room below was
unoccupied at the moment.
A teacher next to Lydia spoke. “Young Pagan
is busy right now. He’s been instructed to shower and tend to his blades. One
of the handlers observes him while he does this. The bathing area is just
beyond the door at the far left.
