    “Let’s go out on the beach, babe. Let’s get in the water.” Lana nuzzled closer to him and held him in her arms. He was warm and muscular, and she felt safe when she was close to him. She kissed his nose and nuzzled closer.

Epilogue
     
    They drove down the old highway one last time, and it was the last time Chris ever saw the town. Lana rode silently in the passenger seat, and even she could tell that it was bittersweet for him, but he was right – it was a good decision to leave. Their bags were packed and loaded up in the bed of Chris’s truck, and they had headed towards the coast.
    By the time they got there it was later in the day, but the sun was still shining brightly in the sky. Chris carried in all the heavy luggage and set them out in the living room. They’d unpack the next day, and the bed would be set up tonight. He’d already pulled it off the top of the truck where it had been tied and set it in the bedroom propped up against the wall. All that was left was setting up the bed frame.
    Lana dropped her last bag on the ground and sat on top of her suitcase. The light was waning outside and they could see the ocean from their back window. They’d picked a small town close to San Francisco and it was just… Beautiful, to say the least. She sighed and felt tired, but she perked up once Chris walked back into the room.
    “The bed is made and ready for us to pass out in tonight.” He laughed.
    “Come here, babe.” She looked up at him lovingly.
    “What?” He walked towards her and smiled.
    “Love you.”
    “Love you .” He crouched down to his knees and took her soft hands in his. He kissed her and tasted how sweet she was. She was perfect in every way, and Lana felt the same about him. He pulled his lips away from her and stared hypnotically at her… She’d amazed him in so many ways.
    “Meeting you was crazy… It was like fate, wasn’t it? Me moving to a random town and getting involved with you… Then all the crazy stuff happening. It happened for a reason.”
    “It was fate. We’re mates.”
    “We are mates…” Lana repeated Chis as she stared into his eyes and then got lost in them. She kissed him again as she smiled and he held her tight.
    They were going to be so happy in their new home .

    “Come on in boys, the water’s great.” The old man swam smoothly between the river banks in the old creek. It was a large creek that led into an enormous river, but the four of them stayed in the small spot with their grill and camp site set up. They’d come there for years, and it was a form of safe haven in a way. It was a place to gather and have fun, and forget about the worries of their kind for a weekend.
    “Come on, suckers !” Jake bellowed as he held tightly onto the rope and then careened himself forward and landed with a huge splash into the water.
    Brad smiled and flipped the hot dogs on the grill. It was going to be a good day. The weather was fine and the sky was that bright blue you only see out west, particularly in Southern California and Arizona. Not a cloud in sight, not a bit of humidity, and not a person around them.
    Ryan walked up and carefully laid out some burger patties on the top section of the grill before patting Brad on the back and cracking open a beer, “It’s a nice one, ain’t it bud?” He rasped.
    “Sure is. Can’t believe us guys are always so lucky when we come up here. Never see a single soul out here camping, just us.”
    “Man, we need to bring some women next time. It’s become too much of a sausage fest.”
