pulled her to meet my eyes. The hunger was so intense, I involuntarily thrust harder into her. The light of her eyes brightened and she started calling out my name. “Kane, Kane.”
We had shared one last kiss before I emptied out into her. I knew I scored this time. I felt it. Our tired, sweaty bodies collapsed on the bed in a heap of limp limbs. With her wrapped up in my arms, we fell asleep.
I woke up to a rustling in the house. Carolyn was in my arms and the kids weren’t home. I jumped quietly out of bed, sniffed the air, and a familiar stench hit my nostrils. My eyes darkened and my wolf was ready for the hunt. It was a foul smell I could never forget. Daniel Danks was in my home.
    He’s here? She asked silently.
I leaned over the bed and kissed her passionately before pulling away to deal with the trash . Yes, but stay in this room and put some clothes on. This will be over soon.
    For Good.
I could smell his scent close. Locking the bedroom door, I exited out the bedroom window and ran around to the nearest entrance. I watched as he tried to jimmy the door unlocked.
“What the fuck are you doing here, Danks?”
“Shit. You were supposed to be sleeping or too busy doing your bitch.”
“So you want a slow death it seems.” I stalked toward him menacingly.
“I’m not the weakling I was then.”
“How come you didn’t die from the tainted drugs?”
“Because I was the one who tainted them. She was becoming a burden I didn’t want to deal with anymore.” He killed his sister?
    He did? She gasped internally.
Shit, I didn’t shut her out. I couldn’t let her in at this moment. This motherfucker was nuts.
Don’t you dare shut me out, damn it! I know you’re thinking something.
    Babe, it’s for the best.
I’ll come out there if you do.
Fine, but my thoughts are not going to be pretty.
We circled each other, waiting for one of us to jump first. I wasn’t going to let this coward get me.
“You’re not going to get out of here alive Danks.”
“Neither will you,” he threatened, lifting his shirt. He had a bomb strapped to his chest.
    “Are you fucking nuts?”
“A little, but I’ve got nothing left.” It was then that I noticed the crazed look in his eyes. He wasn’t joking. He was willing to kill himself. The man was insane.
Babe, climb out the window to safety. He’s got a bomb.
    I can’t leave you.
Don’t worry, I’ve got a plan. I didn’t have one, but I wasn’t going to let her in on that fact. She wouldn’t leave. I knew if the bomb went off, I wouldn’t have a long time, so I had to find a way to run as soon as I could. I circled so my back was to the nearest window. As I moved to it, I saw Carolyn outside on her phone.
“Danks, time is up. We’ve called for help. The sheriff is on his way.”
“Well then, he’ll only find our burnt bodies.” He hit the trigger in his hands as I broke through the window. The explosion ripped through our home, sending me flying to the edge of the forest. Thankfully Carolyn had been far enough away from the house, out by our truck. My body hurt like fucking hell right now and my head was fuzzy. Carolyn ran up to me, frantically searching for any injuries. I heard the sirens in the background as I lost consciousness.

It had been three of the scariest weeks of my life. Kane had been unconscious for over two days. I could sense his pain and his constant nightmares. Once he awoke, he’d begged me to forgive him for the bad dreams, but he had nothing to ask forgiveness for. I was just grateful that he didn’t leave me.
After the explosion, I had a world of explanation to do to my children who couldn’t understand how their daddy almost died. Our oldest was only five, so we just told her that there was a gas leak. I don’t know if that helped because we’d been staying with Arabella and she kept looking worriedly at the stove.
“Carolyn, don’t worry. It’s better than her thinking someone was there to kill you two. As
