Introduction
I am delighted to introduce you to my second cake-decorating book, which is a collection of designs dedicated to the subject of love. In my first book,
Sweet and Simple Party Cakes
(D&C, 2008), I looked at my cake portfolio and picked out some of my favourite designs to give you an idea of the cakes that I had been making at Maisie Fantaisie since the company was established in 2003. This time, rather than taking cakes from my portfolio, I decided that the book should be full of brand new designs and fresh inspiration.

As I hope you will be able to see from the pages that follow, I have had a lot of fun putting this book together! I have taken inspiration from all sorts of things: the garden (Forget-me-not, page 40), clothes designs (Summer Sun, page 46), jewellery (Shooting Star, page 68), ceramic designs (Butterfly Bliss, page 74) and interiors (Ivory Swag, page 80) among many other sources.
The book has been broken into three chapters each with slightly different styles. The first chapter, Sweet Nothings, is about fun love. The second chapter, Look of Love, focuses more on traditional wedding cake designs, and the third chapter, Young Love, looks to engagements and valentines for inspiration. Each cake is complemented by a cookie, cupcake or mini cake design, as these sweet little treats are impossible to resist. The instructions for the cakes in this book are here to guide you, but there is no reason why you can’t use them as a springboard for your own ideas, adapting any designs to suit your particular occasion.
I really hope you enjoy making these cakes as much I have enjoyed creating the book.
    Happy baking!

You can’t beat the wonderful smell of fresh baking and the satisfaction you feel when your cake rises to perfection.
